Mr. and Mrs. Robert M. Hoyes, 69
Perrin Avenue, Shavertown, cele-
brated their 40th wedding anniver-
sary on Thanksgiving Day.
Mrs. Hoyes is the former Ger-
trude L. Martin, daughter of the
late Mr. and Mrs. William W.
Martin, Peckville. Mr. Hoyes is the
son of the late Robert Hoyes and
Pearl Miller Hoyes, Orlando, Fla.
The couple has four children,
Richard M., Dallas; Ellyn Fortney,
Falls; Roger W., Forty Fort, and
Robert J., Reading. They also have
nine grandchildren.
Mr. Hoyes retired from F.W.
Woolworth Company in 1982, while
Mrs. Hoyes is employed as Execu-
tive Assistant to the President, Blue
Cross of Northeastern Pennsyl-
vania, Wilkes-Barre.

Cakes donated
Residents and staff of the Mead-
ows Nursing Center who were
treated to six prize winning cakes
baked and decorated by members of
the Food and Nutrition Class of the
Dallas Area Senior High School.
Eight seniors from the class
taught by Mrs. Debbie Ruckno and
her aide, Mrs. Millie Jones, brought
their confectionary creations to the
Center on Nov. 11 to please the sight
and palates of residents and staff
alike. And contrary to what most
would expect, six of the eight contri-
butors were males.
According to Mrs. Ruckno, the
project was part of the course work,
and the students were encouraged
to decorate from their own original
areas. The result was a varied
selection of cakes that included a
three-dimensional train, a butterfly,
a snowscape complete with deco-
rated Christmas trees, and more.
The two first place winners, as
judged by Assistant Principal Frank
Galicki and Art Teacher, Mrs. Jane
Cornell, with assistance from Ray
Eppley, Karen Schooley, Tina
Tirpak and Karen Evans, while the
latter was produced by the team of
Rick Stritzinger, John Emil, T.J.
Bagley, Tim Finnegan, Michelle
Viveney and Christi Strausser.
Mrs. Ruckno explained that the
Food and Nutrition course is an
elective that is comprised of all
seniors - many of whom are explor-
ing the possibilities of a future
career in food services.
Jillian Leigh Obuhosky, daughter
of Joseph and Sharon Obuhosky of
Dallas, celebrated her fourth birth-
day on Nov. 26. She attends The
Learning Tree Pre-School in Wilkes-
Barre.
Jillian’s maternal grandparents
are Mary Ann Lilley of Dallas and
Daphne Veras
Mr. and Mrs. James D. Veras, of
Shavertown, announce the engage-
ment of their daughter, Daphne, to
Samuel Warner Heed, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Walter R. Heed, of West
Chester, Pa.
Miss Veras, a cum laude graduate
of Wyoming Seminary and an honor
graduate of Lehigh University,
Bethlehem, is in her final year at
the Dickinson School of Law, Car-
lisle, Pa.

Mr. Heed, an attorney, was grad-
uated Phi Beta Kappa from Trinity
Collegbe in Hartford, Conn. He
received his Juris Doctorate degree
from the Dickinson School of Law,
Carlisle, where he was a member of
the Dickinson Law Review. He is an
associate with the firm of Gaw-
throp, Greenwood and Halsted in
West Chester.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Amsell,
Chalfont, Pa., announce the engage-
ment of their daughter, Loren Bar-
bara, to Milton Sherman Hefft, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Sherman G. Hefft,
Box 250, RD 3, Carverton, Wyo-
ming.
Miss Amsell is a 1983 graduate of
Pennsylvania State University with
a Bachelor of Science degree in
Secondary Education.
Dallas Senior High School and a
1979 graduate of Pennsylvania State
University with a Bachelor of Sci-
ence degree in accounting. He is
currently employed as branch man-
ager of the Centre County Office of
the Federal Land Bank Association.

The wedding will be solemnized
Dec. 17 in Calvary Church of Soud-
erton in Souderton, Pa.
the late Charles Lilley. Paternal
grandparents are the late Anna and
Walter Obuhosky who had resided
in Wilkes-Barre.
The occasion was celebrated with
family and friends at Showtime,
Kingston.
Cub Scouts
are honored
The monthly pack meeting of the
Harveys Lake Cub Scout Pack 331
was called to order on Nov. 21 as
ducted by the Webelos of Den 3.
Scoutmaster Ed Shamus and
Assistant Scoutmaster Jon Thomas,
with the aid of parents, awarded
Bobcat badges to the following
boys: David Covert, Nicky DeLeur,
Mark Kaprowski, Mice Crain and
Patrick McManus. Absent but also
receiving badges were Jesse Goble,
Marty Higgins, Leonard Azaravich.
Greg Dobash and George Kocher
were awarded Bear badges and 4
red beads towards achievements,
while Eddie Shamus received 2 red
beads.
A recruiter badge for recruiting
someone into scouting was given to
Kevin Jones. Kevin recruited Mike
Crain who received his Bobcat
badge.
Other awards that were earned
were one-year pins for time and
service to Eddie Shamus, Greg
Dobash, George Kocher and Howie
Whipple; two-year pins, Kevin
Jones, Jon Thomas, Derrick Bol-
agna, Steven Martin, Glen Siglin.
Andy Springer and Dennis Hogan
received four-year pins and Den
Chief cords.
A summertime pack award is
given to any scout who attends at
least three pack functions during
the summer. Receiving this award
were Eddie Shamus, George
Kocher, Kevin Jones, Jon Thomas
and Derrick Bolagna.
Two scouts were awarded several
Webelos Activity Awards. Jon
Thomas received the Sportsman,
Traveler and Naturalist while Der-
rick Bolagna received the Engineer,
Sportsman, Traveler and Natural-
ist.
This was a big evening for Richie
Williams as he graduated from
Webelos to Boy Scouts.
After the awards were given Cub-
upcoming events, including, Christ-
mas tree decorating at Sunset and a
Christmas party in December.
Winter Fun Day at Frances Slocum
Park in January, the Blue and Gold
Dinner in February and a Boat
Regatta in March. Afterwards
everyone enjoyed coffee, juice and
cookies.
The next pack meeting will be
held Dec. 19. Den meetings are held
every Monday at 6:15 p.m. at the
Lake Noxen Elementary School.
