The Franklin Township Board of
Supervisors has recently received a
$50,000. Capital Improvement
Project Grant from the Luzerne
County Office of Community Devel-
opment.
Chairman of the Board, Willard
Race, vice-chairman, Joseph Stan-
kus and township supervisor Russell
Race, advise this grant will be used
to repave .8 mile on Village Rd. and
approximately .6 mile on Lewis Rd.
Application for this grant began in
March of 1982, after which the
township was required to complete
a door-to-door income survey of the
residents on these roads.
One of the primary objectives of
the Community Development Act,
as amended, states that eligible
community development activities
must principally benefit persons of
low-moderate income. Willard,
assisted by the township secretary-
treasurer, conducted the two-day
door-to-door income survey. The
Supervisors agree it is because of
this additional effort and the cooper-
ation of the residents that the town-
ship received a final approval for
the grant.
Joseph Stankus presided at a spe-
cial meeting to receive and open
bids. The contract was awarded to
the lowest bidder, Wyoming Sand &
Stone Co. of Tunkhannock with a bid
of $39,675.20.
In an effort to save additional tax
dollars, the township road depart-
ment has completed installing
storm drainage pipes, in addition to
other preparatory work. ;
The project was scheduled to
begin Oct. 17 with a completion date
of Oct. 21.
