Mini football, or Junior Football
as it is more properly called, is
alive and well in the Back Mountain
area.
The Dallas Cowboys, the Kingston
Township Raiders and the Lake-
Lehman Lions play regularly in the
Suburban Conference League along
with the Northwest Jets from Shick-
shinny, the Northeast Crusaders
from Plains, the Hanover Hawk-
eyes, the Nanticoke Rams and the

games are played on Sundays with
teams generally alternating home
and away games.
Dallas and Kingston Township
form the Back Mountain Junior
Football Club and field four teams
as each has an A team and a B
team. Junior football is available to
boys ages nine to 13. The A teams
are comprised of nine, 10 and 11
year olds while the 12 and 13 year
olds play on the B teams.

children to learn, but it is amazing
how quickly they pick it up,” said

Dallas’ triumph over GAR Satur-
day snapped a nine-year losing
streak to the Grenadiers. Coach Ron
Rybak’s charges only scored seven
points, but had numerous other
scoring opportunities but failed to
cash in on them.
“I wasn’t pleased with our
offense. We moved the ball effec-
tively between the 20s, but when we
got in close we just didn’t make the
plays necessary to put them away,”
Rybak said.
This was the 17th meeting
between the two teams with GAR
still holding a commanding edge of
12 wins to five for the Big D lads.
Rybak added, ‘“We’ve got to get
better moving the football when
we're in scoring territory. Defen-
sively, we had another determined
effort.”
Running back Mike Borton was
the workhorse once again slamming
off tackle for tough gains.
QB Bernie Walsh is getting more
confidence and is going to connect
with receiver Tony Tucker for some
big plays before the end of the
season.
Greg Manusky has All-Star poten-
tial and continues to lead the
defense along with Joe Walsh, who
gets after folks.

High School varsity team suffered a
4-3 loss to a strong Millville team
last week.
“Joe O’Donnell, Brian Moore,
Jerry Mihalick and Jack Stephenson
played an outstanding game. Pat
McDermott, O'Donnell, and Ste-
phenson did the scoring for us,”
said McCafferty.
“This week we meet Valley West
at home, Wyoming Seminary away
and Benton on Friday,” he contin-
ued. “They should be three good
games and I am looking for three
wins. Benton has a very strong
team but I believe we can beat
them.”
Last week’s loss to Millville puts
the team’s league record to date at
2-3-1.
The Back Mountain United soccer
team continued its undefeated
streak when it traveled to Emmaus
on Oct. 1 to play Macungie in the
Lehigh Valley Youth Soccer League.
