A workshop entitled “Drug Ther-
apy and the Elderly” for practical
nurses who work in hospitals, nurs-
ing homes, or home care agencies
will be offered by Penn State’s
College of Human Development,
Department of Nursing. The series
of evening sessions will be held on
Sept. 28, Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26 at the
. Veterans Administration Medical
- Center, Wilkes-Barre from 6 p.m. to
9 p.m.

The Office of Continuing Educa-
tion at Luzerne County Community
College will resume its offering of
the eight week Professional Mixol-
ogy and Bar Mangement course for
the Fall semester at the main
campus in Nanticoke.
With 100 percent placement for
this very popular program, the
course is designed to meet lounge
employment needs, from the most
exclusive to the most informal.
Classes will be offered on Monday
and Tuesday evenings, from 6:30 to
10, through Monday, Nov. 14. The
program will be conducted in the
dining and bar area of the college’s
Educational Conference Center.
An introduction to bartending and
mixology will be given along with
discussions on the storage and pre-
preparation and dispensing of spir-
its, wines, beers and ales; and the
social and psychological aspects of
bartending. Alcoholic substitutes
will be used.
Class time will include seven
hours per week of lecture and
hands-on practice, two field trips,
and guest lectures. For further
information on the program, or to
register, contact the Office of Coni-
nuing Education at Luzerne County
Community College. Class size is
limited.
Kour microcomputer courses are
being offered this fall at Penn
State’s Wilkes-Barre Campus.
‘‘Computer for Kids’ is a 15-hour
program which provides hands-on
experience in using basic program-
ming cmmands. Students will learn
how the computer functions and
what it can do. The course will meet
on Saturdays and will be given to
two age groups, 8 to 10 years olds,
and 11 to 15 years old. The introduc-
tory course will meet from Oct. 1-29
with the 8-10 year group from 9 a.m.
to noon, and the 11-15 year group
from 1 to 4 p.m. An intermediate
session for 11 to 15 years old will be
held from Nov. 12 to Dec. 17 from 1
to 4 p.m.
“Microcomputers for the Family”
is designed for a one parent-one
child team in which participants
will learn the microcomputer’s
potential. This introductory course
assumes no prior experience. It will
meet on Saturdays, Nov. 12 through
Dec. 17, from 9 a.m. to noon.
“Programming in BASIC Lan-
guage (Introduction)’ is for anyone
who is contemplating purchasing a
computer for home or business, or
who is employed where microcom-
puters are used. Participants will
learn to solve simple problems on
the computer for household and
business uses. This course will be
offered in two sessions: Tuesdays,
through Oct. 25, 6 to 9 p.m.; Thurs-
days, through Oct. 27, 6 to 9 p.m.
“Programming in BASIC Lan-
guage (Intermediate)”’ is designed
for those who have had an introduc-
tory. course in the BASIC language.
Participants will design reports and
then advise input formats, write
algorithms to process the input to
get the reports and then write
BASIC programs to accomplish
these results. Two sessiofis of this
course will be offered: Tuesdays,
Thursdays, Nov. 3 through Dec. 8, 6
to 9 p.m.
All four microcomputer courses
will be taught by Michael Elias,
data processing instructor at the
Wilkes-Barre Area Vocational Tech-
