A N \ Margey realizes dreams By CHARLOT M. DENMON Staff Correspondent Seven years ago, Margey Mik- losi decided to open a small Country Western Store in Fern- brook. With the ever-increasing popularity of Country Western music and Western wear, Margey believed such a business would become popular among the local residents. In December, 1976, she opened the “Hoof 'N Paw’ on the Main Road, Fernbrook, across from intent was to stock supplies for horses including riding items and other equestrian needs. Starting small, Margey used only part of the building, leasing the other space to various businesses. Michael S. Kerkowski, of Dallas, has been named Vice President of the Luzerne National Bank. Kerkowski, a graduate of Swoy- ersville High School and Wilkes- Barre Business College, has com- pleted many courses through the American Institute of Banking (AIB). He also attended the Data Processing School of the New Jersey Bankers Association. He is a member of Gate of Heaven Church, Dallas; the Wyo- 3 ming Valley Chapter AIB and the Dallas Kiwanis Club, where he is currently serving as First Vice President. He is also Finance Chair- man for the Luzerne County Fall Fair. Western has brought her far in the past seven years - from one small Part-time hours weekly putting the Hoof 'N Paw Country Western Store into high gear. The business now occupies the entire building and one side is taken up completely by a line of pet foods, supplies and pet nov- elty items. In the early years Margey stocked only horse feed and supplies but a constant demand for all type pet supplies and food gradually brought about a large inventory of feed for small as well as large animals; wild bird seed, sunflower seeds, beds and shampoos. Various breeds of rabbits and rabbit sup- plies are also available at the Hoof 'N Paw. Margey is the sole owner of the business and is assisted only by a friend, Betty. It is not unusual to see the two young women loading or unload- ing 40, 50 to 100-lb. bags of pet food, large sacks of bedding, cedar shavings or grain. Nothing is too small nor too large for them to load into a customer’s car, van or truck. hats in felt, straw or leather, boots, Western shirts, moccasins, belts, buckles and gloves. There her busy sched- ule continues as she takes care of her home and enjoys such leisure activities as bowling.
