Rybak comments
By CHARLOT M. DENMON
Staff Correspondent
‘‘Hanover’s team can be classitied
the same as Nanticoke,” said Dallas
Coach Ron Rybak as he looked
ahead to this weekend. The Moun-
taineers were defeated, 24-21, by
Nanticoke last Saturday and cur-
rently sport a 1-1 record for the 1983
football season.
“The Hawkeyes have 30 kids back
from last season, all of whom have
played. They're veterans, while our
kids are still inexperienced. Hano-
ver kids are bigger and faster and it
will take a great team effort on our
part to get past them. I hope last
Saturday’s loss to the Trojans will
help our kids get their heads on
straight and come along. There is
no doubt we will have to make some
changes both on our offense and
defense. The Hawkeyes have an
excellent quarterback and a great
split end. Hanover will be tough but
we can beat them if the kids don't
break down.”
The Mountaineers were leading
the Trojans 14-7 at halftime but the
second half and, with only 2:45
remaining in the game, Aaron Hig-
gins kicked a field goal to give
Nanticoke the win.
“I believe our kids let down men-
tally after we scored the second
touchdown,’’ said Rybak. ‘We were
leading 21-7 in the second half but
the Trojans wanted to win more
than our kids did.
“It was complimentary to us that
Nanticoke used our basic defense to
stop us. It surprised me that our
kids weren't able to stop the Tro-
jans because we practiced against
that defense. Nanticoke found our
weak spots with A.J. Bittner and
Tim Grove out of the game. We
thought we had shored up those
positions but they broke down.”
The Trojans were bigger and
quicker than Dallas and the Moun-
taineers appeared to the onlookers
as though they broke down after the
Trojans blocked a Dallas punt.
“Bernie Walsh played a super
game and so did Mike Borton
coming out of the backfield,” Rybak
added. “He did great job for us. Our
kids covered their passing well by
Nanticoke got a couple good
breaks.”
Patriots defeat Lehman
The Lake-Lehman Black Knights were defeated, 14-0, by Pittston
Area Saturday night on the Patriots’ home field.
After playing scoreless football for two quarters, the Patriots used
a 96-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Nick Biscontini to Bob
Lombardo in the third quarter and a 32-year Biscontini to Lombardo
pass in the fourth quarter to put themselves on the board. The second
Lehman is now 0-2 on the season after dropping a 12-0 decision to
Tunkhannock in the season opener.
After losing to Dallas last week,
the Lake-Lehman field hockey team
has been working hard in preparing
to meet Valley West and Crestwood.
The Lady Knights scrimmaged the
Valley West Spartans earlier in the
season, so they have some idea of
what to expect.
“The Spartans are a well-coached
team and we will have to play them
aggressively,” said Jean Lipski,
Lake Lehman coach. ‘Everyone
knows Diane Madl of Crestwood and
she is the one we will have to try to
shut down and keep her from break-
ing away.

“After our win over Abington
Heights, I believe we were riding
too high and were over-confident
going against Dallas. I didn’t expect
Dallas to be so aggressive but. I
should have realized it, because I
know Coach Jones.”
Lipski said she was very
impressed with Cristi Strauser, and
the outstanding game she played.
During the first half, the Knights
kept up with their Dallas opponents
but missed several opportunities
near the goal. ®

“This week brings us against two
strong teams, Abington Heights
(Monday) and Nanticoke Area on
Thursday. They’re both Division
AAA teams and we have to get by
them to stay in the running in that
division,” said Dallas Field Hockey
Coach Robyn Jones. “We're going
to continue, as 1 stated earlier
during pre-season, and just play for
one team at a time.
“Following our 2-0 loss to Wyo-
ming Seminary in our season
opener, we had to make some
changes and add some new things in
order to defeat Lake-Lehman last
week. We weren’t as prepared for
Seminary as I thought. Against
Lake-Lehman, it was our balanced
scoring attack that helped.”
The Lady Knights opened the
scoring in the match against Dallas
with Sandy Dicton putting the ball
in just 20 minutes and 30 seconds
into the first half.
Christi Strauser scored, assisted
by Jill Radzinski, 25 minutes into
the first half. In the second half,
Strauser, assisted by Radzinski,
scored another goal for Dallas 16
minutes and 15 seconds into the
half. Both of Strausers goals were
on penalty corners.
Linda King scored a third goal for
Dallas, 18 minutes and 45 ‘seconds
into the second half and Jill Radzin-
ski, unassisted, scored the Lady
Mounts final goal, 28 minutes and 30
seconds into the half one-on-one
with the goalie.
“Both teams played well. It was
an exciting match,” said Coat
