Jean Johnson Lipski, Lake-
Lehman High School’s new girls’
field hockey coach, appears to be
well qualified for the position.
The former Jean Johnson, a
native of Lehman, is a graduate of
Lake-Lehman High School where
she played field hockey for five
years ur.der Coach Jane Morris. She
also lettered in field hockey at
Wilkes College where she played for
four years under coach Gay
Meyers. In her sophomore year at
Wilkes, Jean had the distinction of
being the first Wilkes College field
hockey player to be named to the
Susquehanna Field Hockey All Stars
team.
The daughter of Mrs. Edna John-
son and the late Lynn Johnson of
Lehman, Jean received a Bachelor
of Arts Degree in English Education
and Sociology in 1978. She then
accepted a position at Lake-Lehman
Senior High where she teaches thea-

Recently married to Philip Lipski,
special education instructor at
Lake-Lehman, the new hockey
coach resides in Lehman.
Jean has coached the Lake-
Lehman junior high field hockey
team for three years and, for the
past two years, her teams have

championship. She also coaches the
cheerleaders at Lake-Lehman, is
advisor for the yearbook and directs
Week.
Mrs. Lipski is a member of
Lehman United Methodist Church
where she teaches Sunday School.
She also sings at weddings.
With the help of her assistant
coaches, Flossie Finn and Cheryl
Travis, Jean has worked tirelessly
at getting her team members in
good physical condition and has
spent hours on basic fundamentals
and teaching them to think and play
as a team.
“I believe the fact that I am not
familiar with the senior high teams
is to my advantage,” said Coach
Lipski. “I’m not too concerned with
the other teams’ strengths and
weaknesses, but instead am placing
emphasis on my girls playing to the
best of their ability.
“The girls have lots of enthusiasm
and spirit which pleases me very
much. I have coached all of these
girls in junior high so they are
familiar with my coaching methods
and I am familiar with their strong
and weak points.
“We have excellent depth this
year. We have more than 11 girls
we could put on the field as a first
team. In fact, we have enough to
field two first teams.
“I have excellent assistants and
we are working on improving the
girls’ aggressiveness,’’ Lipski
added. “We are pleased with the
girls’ performance and we are look-
ing for good things from the team
this year. Time will tell.”

After a strong spring practice,
Temple defensive lineman Jerry
McDowell is being counted on for a
outstanding season for the 1983
Temple Owls.
“McDowell .finished spring prac-
tice as our starting right defensive
tackle,” said Head Coach Bruce
Arians. ‘‘Jerry kept improving
during the spring drills but will
have a battle on his hands retaining
the position. McDowell is not flashy
but a good steady player who can be
counted on.”’
