Dr. Richard A. Shipe, Superintendent of the Dallas School District, announces
the bus schedules for the first day of school - Tuesday, Aug. 30. The secondary
starting time for the bus runs is approximately 7 a.m. and the elementary starting
time is approximately 8:15 a.m
These bus lists will be in effect for the first week of school. All routes and stops
will remain the same as last year with the exception of additional stops in the
Huntsville Road section of Dallas to transport students who previously walked to
the Dallas Borough School. These students will now be attending the Dallas
Township School on Church St. which will include Kindergarten to third grade
Fourth grade students from Dallas will attend the Intermediate School on Hildebrant
Road. These Students will find their schedules listed under Bus No.'s 11, 12, 16,
20 and 25. 8
Students who previously walked to the Trucksville School will now attend
Westmoreland and will take either Bus 15 or Bus 8
After this first week, changes will be made where necessary in both times and
locations to accomodate possible overloading.
All Gate of Heaven and Wyoming Seminary runs will remain the same
Gate of Heaven School buses going directly to the School are No.'s 9, 11, 18,
22 and 56. Students not living on those routes will take a Secondary bus to the
Junior High School where they. will be transported directly to their school
The Kindergarten students are reminded of their participation in the school entry
, program, On either the first or second day of: school, their schedule will be given to
them by their teacher at the screening conference prior to the opening of school.
They, along with their parents. will attend a 20-minute visit and return home. The
Kindergarten teachers will inform the parents of these students regarding their
attendance on a regular basis

Motorists Urged
To Heed Laws
Regarding Buses
With school reopening soon, Rep. George C. Hasay
has urged motorists to reacquaint themselves with
the special laws regarding school buses in the
commonwealth.
Hasay said the laws are intended to protect the 1.5
million students who ride school buses.
A motorist who does not obey these laws is subject
to a 30-day suspension of operating privileges, a fine
of up to $100 plus costs and a five-point assessment
on his driving record. ’
Motorists should be aware of these laws:
- You must stop when a school bus stops on a
highway with no medial barrier or when you are
traveling in the same direction as the bus on a
highway with a medial barrier.
- You may pass a stopped school bus on a four lane
highway only if it is stopped on the opposite side of
the highway with a medial barrier or if it is stopped
at a school on the same side of the street as the
school.
Most school buses are painted yellow and display
flashing red lights to signal the bus is stopped and
flashing amber lights to signal the bus is preparing to
stop.
In some communities regular commercial buses
with large “SCHOOL BUS signs, front and rear, are
used to transport students. They should be treated as
school buses for the purposes of the law.
Hasay also warned motorists to heed the 15-mile-
per-hour school zone speed limit.
