From left, Babysitting Course Shown here as they participate Planning Keithline Richards, Eleanor Cortright Guest of faculty in Standing, Cleophas Piatt, Wilkes-Barre General Hospital recently held a baby- sitting seminar for young girls 11 years of age and older. The purpose of the four-hour course was to enlighten the girls on the proper care of youngsters and safety in the home. Topics included first aid for emergencies and basic care of small children, taught by Department of Education instructors Diana Morgan, R.N. and John Geracci, R.N. Security officers: Chuck Pahler and Pete Welgus instructed the participants on fire and personal safety, including where to look for possible causes of trouble ‘and what to do if it should occur. The girls received certificates upon completion. The seminar was coordinated by Daria Leonard, assistant director of Volunteer Services. Mrs. Charlotte Wentz is director. Officials of the Economic Development Council of Northeastern Pennsylvania (EDCNP) announced that applications may still be submitted for economic development assistance under the Small Communities Program of the Pennsylvania Department of Commu- nity Affairs. Howard J. Grossman, Executive Director of the Economic Development Council stated, ‘In our capacity as an Enterprise Development Center, the Economic Development Council is encouraging appropriate munic- ipalities to consider the possibility of submitting an application to the Pennsylvania Department of Commu- nity Affairs for industrial-commercial development including commercial revitalization activities under the 95 million dollar set aside economic development ‘category. “The Development Council is available to assist in developing projects which can improve the economic climate of Nirtheastern Pennsylvania and or its munici- palities,”” Grossman added. Sculls (Continued from Page One) to be designated as ‘“‘Classics’’, she added. Apparently the road would benefit the Sculls if it is constructed according to the records on file in the courthouse, but their concern is that traffic to their business - a business which is their only income - will be cut off while the road is under construction. “When we started two years ago, we had only a small 14-foot camper for an office; now we have a 45-foot trailer for our office. We are trying to clear all of our property as we have the money to do so and working on the reconditioning of all the cars so we can park them side by side on the sale lot. “If the road goes through as proposed it will come within five feet of the garage in the one area and within about 15 feet of the office in the other. My concern is that we have the proper access from the highway,”’said Ray. “Our customers have to get in and out in order to do business with us. “I can’t understand why the Authority wants to construct a road which will go nowhere when that money could be better used to control the offensive odor emanating from the Sewer Authority building.” George J. Alles, Jr., chairman of the Harveys Lake Sewer Authority, explained that Greenwood Avenue was a “‘paper’’ road only, dating back to the ¢arly 1800's. “That road was never dedicated and could never be taken over by any person or persons Fat a municipal body. It runs parallel to the sewer fnorty SO we decided to take it over by condemnatiég,and improve that area coming into the lake. B-4 presently “There is no legal access where the Sel come into their place of business, but his property is adjacent to the road. We are going to give a free and clear deed to the one end of the property so he will have legal access to his business. The road will actually be beneficial to him and improve his business. “We don’t want to put him out of business. In the next few weeks, we hope to sit down with the Sculls and their attorney and, hopefully, both sides will resolve the situation to everyone's satisfaction.” sy > Further information concerning the Small Communi- ties Economic Development Program may be obtained by writing the Economic Development Council, P.O.
