During the eight-week training cycle, trainees studied general military subjects designed to pre- pare them for further aca- demic and on-the-job train- ing in one of the Navy’s 85 basic occupational fields. Included in their studies were seamanship, close order drill, Naval history and first aid. He was awarded the Bowen-Brooks Fellowship by the New York Academy of Medicine, and the stipend permitted fellowship train- ing in a foreign country. He pursued a fellowship in ediatric urology at Alder oy Children’s Hospital in Liverpool, England, under James Herbert Johnston, .B.,F.RCS. He has published several articles in the field of pediatric urology.
