Brett picked up the victory from the | ‘Menendez leads Plains Stars past Back Mountain Plains hurler Chris Menendez was wild on the mound, walking eight batters in the first three innings of his team’s All-Star game against the Back * Mountain National team last week. Menendez, however, made up for his mistakes in the top of the fourth inning when he hit a homer over the centerfield fence to break a 1-1 tie to give Plains a 2-1 win and the District 16 B title. Back Mountain was unable to take advantage of the walks and left nine men stranded on base in the first three innings. With one out in the third, Dave Kelly came in as relief for Menendez and gave up a single to the first man he faced. The Back Mountain Girls picked up an 8-0 victory over Canton prior to winning the Section 3 championship in Shippensbury on Saturday. The Back Mountain girls scored four runs in the top of the sixth and hung on to hold Shippens- burg to only one run in the bottom of the final inning. In, an unusual situation, Shippensburg’s coach picked a Back Mountain player to re-enter the game when Slocum used up her bench due to inju- ries. The selection couldn’t have been better since it was Suzie Slocum, one of the team’s finest to go in Leading in the batting box were Cindy Slocum with a double, Kelly Wandel, Michele Sweitzer, Lori Cannon and Lori Lopasky. Coach Slocum also com- mended Joyce Tinner for a stellar performance. In lat. Wednesday's game against the Canton All- Stars Back Mountain’s Joyce Tinner and Kelly Wandel knocked out two hits each and added an RBI apiece to aid Michelle Sweitzer in her two-hit 8-0 shutout over the visitors. It was that victory that Shippensburg for the regional title. On Wednesday, Sweitzer struck out seven and walked only three in pick- ing up the win. The Back Mountain girls had nine hits in the game, Cindy Slocum. They scored four runs in the second inning, driving Canton’s hurtler Sarah Bentley from the mound.
