COLLEGE MISERICORDIA AND TEMPLE ISRAEL
sponsored a week of activities recently during Miseri-
cordia’s Elderhostel Program. The four evening pro-
grams were entitled “L’Chaim: To Life” and featured
film, music, art and literature of Israel and the Jewish
people. Debbie Wested served as assistant of the
Elderhostel; Tom O’Neill was Elderhostel director; Also
participating were the late Rabbi Abraham Barras,
Temple Israel; Aaron Briver, cantor at Temple Israel
and Dr. Carol Rittner, RSM, Misericordia trustee and
program coordinator.

DORRIS FOX, Trucksville, was among those graduat-
ing from the Operating Room Technology class of
Luzerne County Community college recently.
This program includes a one-year specialized program
and is taught by Carolyn Brubaker of Dallas.

HARVEYS LAKE celebrated Christmas in July last
weekend. Many folks displayed Christmas lights, giving
the area around the lake a pretty glow. Members of the
Harveys Lake Yacht Club, celebrated with Christmas
decorations, gifts, and a Christmas tree. Following a
traditional turkey dinner, party-goers danced to the
music of the “Royal Diamonds.”’ Even Santa turned up

DR. AND MRS. JOHN G. BUCHA II, Stoneledge,
announce the birth of a son, John G. III, on June 30 in
NPW Medical Center, Plains. The Buchas also have a
daughter, Jannell.
Mrs. Bucha is the former Virginia Mullen, daughter of
Mrs. Nellie Mullen, Pittston and the late Joseph Mullen.
Dr. Bucha, a veterinarian, is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
John G. Bucha, Allentown.
John III will be Christened on July 31 in St. Theresa’s
Church Shavertown. ;
MR. AND MRS. WAYNE PETTIT, 47 E. Franklin St.,
Shavertown and Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Piatt, Sweet
Valley, have returned home after an exciting vacation
in Hawaii. While in Hawaii, they toured Pearl Harbor,
the Polynesian Culture Center and enjoyed the Don Ho
Show.

CATHERINE M. CONAGHEN, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. James F. Conaghan, 273 Chase Manor, Shaver-
town, was awarded the doctoral degree from Yale

years living in Eduador conducting research for her
doctoral dissertation which explores the relationship
between industrialists and the military reformists in
Ecuador in the 1970s.
A member of the faculty at Simmons College, Boston,
Massachusetts, Catherine is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate
of the University of Pittsburgh. She received her Master
of Arts Degree from Yale.
