    The Summer Blood
Drive, sponsored by the
Back Mountain Blood
Council, will be held July
12 from 11:45 a.m. to 5:45
terian Church in Dallas.
The church is located at
the top of Church St.,
behind the Dallas Town-
ship School.
The summer has always
been a season when blood
supplies run short. This
year, there is a particular
shortage of B negative
blood, but all types are
needed. Many donors go
- on vacation, but since ill-
ness takes no vacation,
users need blood all the
time. There is a need for
new donors to take the
place of vacationers and to
become regular donors
themselves.
Blood and blood compo-
nents are vital to the work
of healing in hospitals and
its use is increasing
annually. This area, which
is one where the average
age of the population is
increasing, presents a
problem to the Red Cross.
More people are living
longer and are becoming
users of blood and blood
components. Thus, there
are fewer younger people
to be donors. There
appears to be a hgh incid-
ence of cancer in the area
and cancer patients are
quantity users of blood
components in their treat-
ment.
The solution is in the
hands of the community.
Although there seems to
be a decrease in the
number of younger, heal-
thy residents, there are
still more than enough
people who are able to
tions of blood donors is
that they are from 17 to 65
years of age and in good
health.
Since the formation of
the Back Mountain Blood
Council, donations have
increased from two collec-
tions averaging 150 units
to five collections averag-
ing over 200 units. The
Council, however, feels a
need to increase its collec-
tion to approximately 300
units.
The Blood Council feels
the public is not aware of
the need for blood. The
need can be summed up in
the following statements:
(1) There is no substi-
tute for human blood.
(2) The need is constant
and each unit, when
broken down into compo-
nents, can be used to help
more than one person or
type of illness.
(3) Without blood, a
number of people includ-
ing hemophiliacs, would
not be alive today.
The Back Mountain
Blood Council makes its
appeal to the community -
if you are between 17 and
65 years of age, in good
health and weight at least
110 pounds, you are capa-
ble of donating blood
during this drive.

Questions
Answered
Following are represent-
ative questions answered
daily by VA counselors.
Full information is availa-
ble at any VA office.
Q - What are the proce-
dures for applying for a
home loan under the GI
bill and how is the rate of
interest determined?
A - The veteran must
first apply for a certificate
of eligibility from the VA
by submitting the proper
application and a copy of
his discharge. The certifi-
cate of eligibility is then
presented to the lending
institution who submits the
loan application to the VA
for approval. The VA does
not make the loan; it guar-
antees it, and it is the
veteran’s responsibility to
find a lending institution.
The VA sets a maximum
interest rate that the
