By JOAN KINGSBURY Post Correspondent When school is out for the summer, one question hangs heavy on the minds of kids everywhere - “What is there to do?” Mary Lou Swingle and her daughters, Cathy Anne Berkey and Michele Hogans, can provide both you and your child with a variety of craft projects. This. mother-daughter team own and operate Grannie Annie’s Craits located on North Main Street in Shavertown. During July, Grannie Annie’s will hold Classes for Kids. The classes will be: held July 6, 13 and 20 with: two sessions a day. The morning session runs from 10 a.m. to noon while the afternoon class is from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Members of the classes will paint woodalls, toaster tongs and. frisbies. Each class will cost $5, which includes all supplies. Lim- ited registration is being accepted by calling Gran- nie Annies at 675-1311. Mary Lou, Cathy Anne and Michele carry a full line of supplies in their shop including yarn, macrame cord, beads, rings, Susan Bates floss and fabric for counted cross stitch. They carry all necessary needlework sup- plies; kits for crewel, cross stitch, counted cross stitch, needlepoint as well as plastic canvas, quilling supplies, sticky frames, pom poms, eyes and all general craft supplies. Instruction books for crafts and needlework are also available. Some new additions to the shop are the boutique baseball bats, roller skates, frogs, turtles, flow- ‘ers, hammer, pliers. Since all three women have always enjoyed work- ing with crafts, it was just natural for them to go into business when the oppor- tunity arose. Once fall approaches, they will be even busier getting ready for seminars for Girl Scout Leaders and Den Mothers. At these seminars various projects will be presented, with leaders having the opportunity to make arrangements to purchase supplies for the project that appeals to them, then pick the needed items up when the project time arrives. Grannie Annie’s gives a discount to all non-profit organizations. If anyone desires to learn how to do a specific craft or kind of needlework, just call as either Mary Lou, Cathy Anne or Michele will be able to give instructions. Mary Lou says that the three of them can teach just about any craft or type of needlework one would like to learn. When not operating the shop, Mary Lou serves as second vice-president of the board of Penn’s Woods Girl Scouts, and as church school superintendent of the Shavertown United Congratulations to Joan Felty of Dallas who was presented the ‘‘Advocate of the Year” award at the 30th anniversary dinner of the Association for Retarded Citizens. Obviously, three women who operate a business from 10 am. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and then participate in community endeavors and hold other jobs besides are very busy. This, however, does not change the fact that all three love to cook. For our readers who would like to whip up delicious meals in record time, the staff of Grannie Annie's has provided three great meals - Mary Lou’s Roast Beef Dinner, Taco Salad, a favorite at Cathy Anne's house; and Michele Hogans’ Grilled London Broil. GRILLED LONDON BROIL Michele Hogans 1 London broil 1 c. terriyaki sauce meat marinade garlic powder pepper Rub London broil with pepper. Sprinkle with garlic powder. Place in a container with a tight fit- ting lid. Pour in marinade. Let stand 8 hours or over- night. Heat grill. Grill on both sides about 15 min- utes per side. Slice across grain. Taco seasoning mix shredded lettuce chopped tomatoes shredded cheddar cheese toasted corn flavored chips " Prepare meat and taco sauce as directed on pack- age. Layer lettuce, tomato and cheese in individual large salad bowls. Top with meat sauce. Serve with chips. For very mild sauce brown ground beef, drain, stir in catsup and a very small amount of water until saucy. For extra fast supper prepare meat sauce in the microwave. Start on high (for about 2 hours) then change to medium. If there is no one home to change the setting leave it set on medium all day. Don’t put the mushrooms in until the last half hour of cooking time.
