Dr. Joseph Tomasovic, It has not yet been announced whether Col- lege Misericordia will offer a course in designing and marketing computer games, but with its newly acquired academic com- puter, the college will cer- for such a program. College Misericordia replaced its academic computer with a VAX 11- +730, with three megabytes of main memory, by Digi- tal Equipment Cor’ poration (DEC). It is the latest in a family 'of "DEC computers which the manufacturer considers its ‘“‘thrust for the 80s.” The VAX computer is for student use only. The result is that students are nearly guar- anteed access fo the aca- demic computer. According to Dr. Joseph Tomasovic, academic computer service program director at College Miseri- cordia, all students, from freshmen to seniors, will be able to use the com- puter when they want to. “They will avoid the common college and uni- versity syndrome of punching cards and rely- ing on one or two com- puter operators. Students will have immediate access to the VAX on one of our video terminals.” College Misericordia offers bachelor of science degrees in computer sci- ence and information sys- tems. The college also allows students to concen- trate in these areas while earning a bachelor’s degree in another major, such as mathematics or .business administration. Tomasovic expects about 80 computer science and information system majors by 1985. “We will limit enrollment,” Toma- sovic noted,” to ensure ff computer access and to provide individual atten- tion to each student. I believe this is beneficial in learning the intricacies of computer science.” Several area pastorates and a number of former area residents were involved in the changes announced at the annual Wyoming District Confer- ence of the United Method- ist Church, which was held at the University of Scran- ton and Elm Park United Methodist Church in Scranton June 10-13.
