Pack 281; Recently the Trinity Presbyterian Church of Dallas held its first God and Family Award serv- ice, when five Cub Scout members of the parish received their religious emblems. The service was opened by a procession led by Eagle Scout Jeff Hall with the church flag, followed by the American and unit flags carried by Scouts; Award recipients, their families and their leaders. After a short explanation on the purpose of the God and Family Award, Rev. Andrew 'Pillarella, asked the fathers of the boys to resenting God, Family and Scouting. ach boy, his family © and leader, escorted by honor guard scouts, were called to the altar, while the mothers lighted the candles repre- senting their sons. Rev. Pillarella gave the leader the medals, which were placed on the boys’ shirts. Over 60 Cadette, Senior and . adult Girl Scouts attended the training ses- sions. Attendees repre- sented ‘all six counties under the jurisdiction of Penn’s Woods Council. Courses offered included Basic Troop Camp, Diane Snyder, Lansford, Trainer; American Camp- ing Association Campecraf- ter, Barbara Rosene, reminiscent of the award. At the conclusion of the ceremony, Rev. Pillarella introduced Dave Hasel, Penn Mt. Council Scout Executive who made a few remarks. Barbara Barakat Presi- dent of the Womens Asso- ciation of Trinity Church gave each boy a plaque. Two other cubs in the con- gregation who were acting color guards, were intro- duced with their families as receiving their Pavae Dei award earlier at Gate of Heaven Church, Jarrett Rittenhouse and Shawn Williams. At the conclusion of the church service everyone was welcome to the church social room for light refreshments and to con- gratulate the boys. According to Janet Boyle, Director of Council- Sponsored Programs, - the weekend training activity is part of the total outdoor training program for adults and Girl Scouts in the council. Other training sessions incude ‘‘Autumn Escapades’’, an annual the Fall, ‘and a number of other ‘camp and outdoor seminars held on a local level. Attendees at ‘‘Spring Thaw’’ from the Back Mountain area included: Mary Ann Macri, Trucks- ville, and Cindy Evans and Lorraine Symons, Shaver- town. Webelos Cubs into Boy Scouts was the highlight of Paek 232: monthly pack meeting. Besides bridging into Boy Scout Troop 232, the seven ‘boys also attained the distinction of completing the require- ments and’ receiving the Arrow of Light Award. This award is equivalent to the Eagle Scout Award in Boys Scouting and it is the highest award a Cub Scout can receive. The boys that received this honor and bridged into Boy Scouts are Matthew Campbell, Michael Farris, Ronnie Fitch, = Jackie Jones, John Kristan, Sean vi Mulloy and Michael Wil- liams. Family Award” is a struc- tured program, working towards strengthening the relationship of a 9 or 10 year old scout to God, church, family, friends and fellowmen. The scout works directly with the pastor of his church, for months, on designated projects. Mark Chappell had the honor of receiving this religious award. It was presented to Mark by his pastor, Rev. Andrew Pillarella, at the Trinity Presbyterian Church.
