This computer course also privides enrichment for the students through their individual studies via the computer. According to Mr. John la Nunziata, one of the school’s computer math instructors, this computer math class is an ‘“‘essential part of an academic student’s ‘en trance into college.” Many colleges now require basic computer literacy. Wyoming Valley West alumni = have reported that their computer math course proved to be useful when they moved on to college study. Since the invention of the micro-computer, man has become increasingly aware of the fact that knowledge of computer operation is vital to his future. Expansion of the curriculum computer software is seen necessary in the near future. An advanced computer math class is now being considered. This class would offer the student a more detailed manipulation of programming and computer language, in- cluding Fortran IV. The future also holds, for the computer itself, a con- version from cassette data storage to disc storage. This change would increase the computer’s capacity to store programming in gy formation. Chairman of the Wyoming Valley West High School mathematics department Mr. Joseph AF. Opalski, and com- puter instructors, John LaNunziata and Richard Furman, have each gained first-hand ex- perience in this area. In thisday and age each one of these competent in- structors feels that the computer math course is essential in the lives of our students, for com- puters are becoming as commonplace as television sets. - et ei SS RSA 8
