It is truly surprising to
realize just how
sophisticated youngsters
are about the world of
newspapers.
The original intent was
to visit Mrs. Tripp’s fifth
grade language arts class
and explain the workings
of a newspaper. However,
' this reporter quickly
found out the students
. knew quite a bit about the
ingredients necessry for
good journalism already.
And, they had very
definite ideas about what
they liked in the print
media.
A glimpse at the
premier edition of the
Intermediate Voice, a
student newspaper which
resulted from their study
of the topic, proved they

Misericorida, studied a
unit on ‘‘the newspaper.”
To put their learning to
practical use, they
composed the Inter-
mediate Voice. The paper
included a well-rounded
variety of news stories
and features with em-
phasis on national, local,
school and sports news.
The original writing was
combined with artwork
and editorial comments,
games, and en-
tertainment listings. The
end result was in-
formative, newsy and fun,
with something for
everyone, as a true
newspaper ought to be.
It was refreshing to see
such enthusiasm for the
print media among the
youngsters. Hopefully this
will remain with a few as
they grow older. Perhaps
a future Dallas Post
editor was among the
group.
Guest speaker will be
Mary McDermott, “54, a
teacher in the
Willingboro, New Jersey
public schools.
Co-chairmen for the
event are Sara Carey
Clark, '37, and Carmen
Rosa Foreman, 82.

before April 25.

During March the
Dallas School Lunch
Program celebrated
National Nutritional
Month by featuring a
counter-top display
contest for cafeteria
workers in all elementary
and intermediate schools.
The theme of the con
test was ‘“Nutrition.’
First place winner was
Borough Elementary,
Alice Reese and Millie
Race for ‘‘let’s Go
Fishing for Good
Nutrition.” ;
Second place winner
was Dallas Intermediate
School, Martha J. Patts
and Jane Ash for ‘‘Pac-
man and Good Nutrition.”
First and second place
winners received
trophies. All contestants
received tickets to their
favorite cinema show.
