The original intent was to visit Mrs. Tripp’s fifth grade language arts class and explain the workings of a newspaper. And, they had very definite ideas about what they liked in the print media. The paper included a well-rounded variety of news stories and features with em- phasis on national, local, school and sports news. The original writing was combined with artwork and editorial comments, games, and en- tertainment listings. The end result was in- formative, newsy and fun, with something for everyone, as a true newspaper ought to be. It was refreshing to see such enthusiasm for the print media among the youngsters. Hopefully this will remain with a few as they grow older. Perhaps a future Dallas Post editor was among the group. The theme of the con test was ‘“Nutrition.’ First place winner was Borough Elementary, Alice Reese and Millie Race for ‘‘let’s Go Fishing for Good Nutrition.” ; Second place winner was Dallas Intermediate School, Martha J. Patts and Jane Ash for ‘‘Pac- man and Good Nutrition.” First and second place winners received trophies.
