Mountain Kiwanis Clubs
will make what has
become a traditional
inter-clubbing trip into
Canada, visiting nine
Kiwanis Clubs in Canada,
New York, and Penn-
sylvania.
This active observance
of United States - Canada
Goodwill Week makes it
possible to observe and
join with fellow
Kiwanians who have
common goals of com-
munity and youth service.
This year the local
Kiwanians will ako be
pined by a group from the
Wilkes-Barre Kiwanis
Club and the Cortland
N.Y. Kiwanis Club. The
latter group has been
joining with the locak for
several years.
Canadian Kiwanis
Clubs to be visited in
Ontario include,
Kingston, West Kingston,
Prescott, and Brockville.
New York visitations will
be with Black River,
Ogdensburg, Johnson
City, and Cortland.
Kiwanis is built on the
twin foundation of service
and fellbwship and the
Pennsylvania District
conducts an annual
contest in visitations
called interclubbing.

The State of Pennsylvania has proclaimed April
23, 1983 as “Keep Pennsylvania Clean DAy."
Kingston Twp. urges residents to make an effort to
clean up their personal properties in conjunction with
the township's efforts to clean up litter along the
roadsides.
There are several properties in the township where
debris and litter have been dumped and stored, making
these properties general eyesores to the community.
Residents are requested to take pride in their neigh-
borhood.
A general spring clean-up will be conducted by
Kingston Twp. the first two weeks in May. A schedule
of streets will be published in the next two weeks.
Chicken Plus, the retail division of Gress Farms-
Scranton, will open Thursday, April 14 at its newest
location, 659 Memorial Hwy., Dallas at the former
Country's Best location.
Chicken Plus features fresh U.S.D.A. Inspected
Chickenpacked in five and 10-1b. bags. and an array of
fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy and eggs, frozen
foods and fresh ground chuck at the new Dallas
location.
Chicken Plus will be open Wednesday through
Saturday with evening shopping Fridays until 8.
Robert Friend, Jr., will stand trial in Luzerne County
Court on chargesof stealing precious gems worth more
than $350,000. District Justice Leonard Harvey ordered
the court trial last week after conducting a preliminary
hearing.
Friend, a former salesman for Seven Seals, Inc. of
Berwick, allegedly took the gems from a safety deposit
box in the Dallas Branch of the First Eastern Bank on
May 18, 1982. He fled, and became the object of a nine-
month search. He was picked up in Texas on Feb. 23
and brought back to face the charges.
Roy Ridgeway, Dalton, is presently serving a jail
term for his connection with the theft. He was arrested
in June of 1982 on charges of conspiracy. He pleaded
guilty to the charge.
Kingston Twp. Police Department is sporting a
brand new unmarked police cruiser equipped with
VASCAR, the latest electronic equipment to catch
speeders. In addition, 12 new service revolvers have
been purchased and issued to all the full and part time
members of the police force.
Sorry to hear that Dallas Borough Councilman Bill
Berti, a resident of Franklin Street, is a surgical
patient at NPW Medical Center. Hope you'll soon be
feeling better Bill, we're all rooting for you
Hear that the stork has visited the Dallas School
[District Administrative Ofice making both Phyllis
Sappe and Ann Morgan new grandmothers. Phyllis and
her husband Adolph Sappe of Pear Tree Lane, Dallas
were thrilled with their first granddaughter born on
Easter Sunday while Ann Morgan and her husband
Wilbur of Maple Streef Trucksville greeted a new
grandson:
The UGH Corporation reported operating income for
the two months ending Feb. 28 declined to $16.150.000
from $21,364,000 for the same period a year ago. Net
income dropped to $5,786,000 from $10,991.00.
Revenues fell to $148,598,000 from $162.085.000.
Citing these figures, the company announced filing a
registration statement with the Securities and
Exchange Commission for the proposed offering of up
to 650,000 shares of common stock through un-
derwriters Goldman, Sachs and Co. and the First
Boston Corp.
Edward Elliot Cummings, a former Penn State
Cummings, RD 1, Dallas, was’ arraigned before

Jackson Twp. supervisors unanimously voted to hire
a full-time officer and two additional part-time
patrolmen to add to the community's S police force.
The move came after Police Chief Don Jones
recommended the force be expanded. The full-time
officer will be hired for daytime police coverage. The
townships also covered by the State Police when local
law enforcers are not on duty.
