THE BIG FISH: Joe Marcelonis of Kunkle brought home what every frout fisherman dreams of, a 14 pound brown trout from the productive waters of Lake Ontario last week. Joe’s catch from the big waters is normally a treat for friends and neighbors who get the succulent catch on which to dine. With the onset of the local trout season, Joe will do some fishing in area waters. However, his heart belongs to the big lakes. Wilkes-Barre Fats Golf Directory Coming in May CLIPBOARD NOTES: week couldn’ t believe Houston was upset by N.C. State. What puzzled me about the contest was Houston going to a delay game with over five minutes remaining and nursing a seven-point lead. At the time it appeared the Cougars had the Wolfpack by the ropes, but didn’t deliver the knockout. Instead of playing their style, they played right into State’s hands. I’m beginning to get into the Stanley Cup. I'm rooting on the Islanders and believe they'll gain some con time and is hoping topublish a golf directory sometime in May. We hope to have a lot of information pertaining to the local courses in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Had a nice visit over the Easter holicay with Dave Lyon, a former grad assistant at Tennessee who's now calling the shots at Thiel College. Dave is hoping to turn Thiel’s grid fortunes around and has been doing a lot of the little things that are so significant to a winning program. I was impressed with him and the college's commitment to having a winning program. It sorta surprised me to read last week where Calvin Peete was quoted as saying, ‘The Masters Tournament is very overrated.’”’ Heck, I'll take his place in the field anytime and he can take mine in some of the local events around here. The Masters is one of my favorite sporting events. I'm making plans right now to try to get to the U.S. Open at Oakmont in Pittsburgh this summer. Several local hoop coaches were walking around with a mad-on last week when King’s went out of the area to name its new roundball coach, Ken Atkins. Most believed it was a mistake. The local faverite of course was Jim Atherton. Maybe the King’s folks decided they'd rather takean ‘‘outsider” rather than a local person to alieviate the back-biting that was going on for the post. How can the USFL players realistically bring in a players’ union when the new grid loop is far from esta- blished? A union of any nature at this time could put a dent in the loop’s stability. Being a Tom Seaver fan, I'm delighted he’sback where he belongs, in New York. M. Donald Grant is the guy responsible for ruining the Mets by trading Tom ‘‘“Terrific”’ and Jerry Kossman, among others. When it comes to competitors, a player delivering in the clutch, Seaver ranks in my top 10. . Schoolboy baseball is starting play and look for Dallas and Lake-Lehman to be very competitive. This can be attributed to the solid Back Mountain baseball organiza- tion which year-in and year-out does a superb job with the youngsters. Pitching usually dominates early and the team with a couple of good arms can go a long way. Wasn't it super to see some of the veterans on the PGA Tour toring up those sub-par rounds early in the Masters and get some recognition? 3 With the opening of the Wyoming Valley Girls Softball League this Friday, Lake-Lehman girls are considered the team to take AA Division honors under the direction of Coach Florence Finn. In Class AAA, it is expected that Dallas will battle Nanticoke and Bishop Hoban for the division title. The league schedule had been changed this year so that each team will play each team only once. The AAA team and the AA team with the best record will go into the District II playoffs with no league playoff or champion. Finn has some stellar performers in Kim Fey, The Back Mountain Youth Soccer Association will sponsor a soccer coaching clinic, beginning Sunday, April 17, and meeting Sunday af- ternoons until the end of June, at Penn State University, Lehman.
