A request by 84 residents of the Meadows, aged 70
and over, met with rejection last week by members of
the Dallas Twp. board of supervisors. The residents
asked for an exemption from the township’s $5 per year
per capita tax.
saying they cannot change the law. Legislation af-
fecting the per capita levy states exemptions may not
be made unless residents take a pauper’s oath.
Harveys Lake Police Chief Lionel Bulford has been
cited by the Lehman Twp. Zoning Hearing Board for
residential rea.
James Vowell, zoning officer, said Bulford who
resides on Briarcrest Road, had been warned about
having farm animals on his property. Complaints of
alleged excessive noise and stench came to the board
Harveys Lake Borough Council has given Phillip
Krasner until April 19 to give up a portion of public land
presently made to look as if it belongs to him. Borough
solicitor Joseph Kasper said Krasner planted grass
that contoured the borough property to look like his
own. If Krasner does not comply, council was advised
to remove the improvements and file suit against him
for the cost. ;
Jackson Twp. supervisors met in a special meeting
last week to approve phase one development of seven
two-acre lots of the Woodridge Development located
off Sutton Road. :
This development is slated for eventual expansion to
24 lots. However, approval of the supervisors and
township engineer must be obtined before the sale of
any property can take place.
Developers Joseph Moore and Michael Corgan must
meet 10 stipulations dealing primarily with drainage,
before any sales can be made.
Jackson Twp. police officer Bert Balliet was fined
$150 last week by District Justice Leonard Harvey on a
charge of harassment in connection with a Jan. 3
scuffle outside that community’s fire hall. Robert
Hagenbach, the other party involved, was found not
guilty of the same charge.
Following Harvey’s decision, rendered on Thursday,
March 17, Jackson Twp. solicitor Blythe Evans said
Hagenbach said Balliet slapped him several times in
the face. The altercation allegedly occurred because
municipal meeting. Several township residents who
witnessed the argument and scuffle were called to
testify. °
Lehman Twp. supervisors have applied to Harris-
burg and the Federal Communications Commission for
approval for a township FM radio frequency to benefit
police and road departments, three fire departments
and ambulance units.
Supervisaors are looking for a federal grant to cover
costs involved in purchasing the several agencies with
necessary equipment.
Back Mountain TV and Appliances, Route 415, Dallas
was burglarized last week. Jan Verbinski, owner of the
store, reported the theft of components from a satellite
receiving station, which was mounted on a trailer
truck. Value was estimated at $877. The unit is the type
used by residents to pick up television stations on their
home sets. i
Inmates at the State Correctional Institution at
Dallas will soon be able to receive cable television
there. Tom Figmik, administrative assistant at SCID,
said the system is being installed by a local contractor.
Each inmate opting to receive the hook-up will pay $20
installatin fee, plus $8.75 per month. A reception dish
placed on the prison grounds is capable of receiving
nine different stations.
