The Radio Club of
Wyoming Valley West
High School has its very
own radio station. At the
present time, it only
operates * within the
school; however, the
club’s advisor, Les
Nicholas; hopes that
within time the station
will operate on the local
airwaves.
The club has 115
members, 20 of whom act
as disc jockeys. These
students give up their
lunch periods to provide
musical entertainment
for the students during
.
lunchtime. They must
follow a certain program.
They perform similarly to
local stations by
providing weather
reports, the time, and
announcements pertai-
ning to school activities.
Nicholas has had much
experience in the area. He
has worked for WCLH,
WBRE, and WKRZ. He
points out that the pur-
pose of the station is not
only to provide music at
lunch, but also to enable
the student to learn about
communications.
The station operates
from the club’s studio
within the school. Money
from fund raising projects
was used to purchase the
which could not be bought
by the club itself was
donated by the Forty Fort
Lumber Company.
Wiring for the studio
was provided free-of-
charge by engineer Ron
Schacht.
WWVW, never could have
gotten where it is today
without the help of these
people, the approval of
the school’s ad-
ministsration, and the.
dedication of Nicholas.
