Using a mixture of its
own staff personnel and
outside consultants, the
Lake-Lehman School
participants, Helen
Dr. Richard A. Shipe,
superintendent of the
Dallas School District,
announces kindergarten
registration for the 1983-84
school year will be held in
Office Building, Church
Street, Dallas on March
21, 22, 23 and 24.
Hours will be from 9
a.m. to noon and 1 to 4
p.m. Monday through
Thursday. A birth cer-
tificate or other accept-
able evidence of age must
accompany each
registration. A child must
be 5 years of age on or
before Sept. 30, to make
him-her eligible for
kindergarten.
Edgar Hughes, prin-
cipal of Dallas High
School, has announced
senior high school in Leh-
man.
Dr. M. David Preston,
superintendent, planned
the program and intro-
duced the principal

Those with last names
beginning with A-F will
register on Monday,
March 21; those with G-M
on Tuesday, March 22;
those with N-S on Wed-
nesday, March 23 and
those with T-Z on Thur-
sday, March 24. Children
who will enter first grade,
but did not attend the
kindergarten program
this past term, may also
register on Thursday,
March 24.
In addition to the
registration, vision,
hearing and speech
screenings will be given.
Under new Department
of Health regulations, all
children, kindergarten

review the child’s im-
munizations to be certain
the child meets the
standards as set by the
state regarding im-
munizations. Parents are
to bring all records .of
their child’s immuniza-

Dr. Preston spoke to a
group on the subject,
‘Better Achievement,
and Robert Kunkle pre-
sented a taped presenta-
tion ‘How to Be a Happy,
Exciting, Successful
Teacher.”
Teacher evaluation of
the day’s seminars was
very positive and Dr.
Preston expressed his
gratitude to the various
faculty presenters with
these words: “We are
very appreciative of the
efforts of our staff. The
quality of the in-service
presentations was ex-
tremely high and
evidences the
professional background
of our teachers.”

progress. Only finalists
are considered for a Merit
Scholarship. Approxi-
mately 13,500 finalists are
now being considered for
up to 5,300 Merit Scholar-
ships to be awarded this
spring.
Marjorie is the
daughter of Dr. and Mrs.
Byron Myers, 26 Taminini
Drive, RD 2, Wyoming.
Dr. Myers is dean of
academic affairs at
Luzerne County Com-
munity College. Mrs.
Myers is an elementary
teacher in the Dallas
School District.
Marjorie has been an
outstanding student at
Dallas Senior High. She is
a member of the National
Honor Society. In her
junior year she main-
tained a 4.0 average. She
has been on the Honor
Roll all through Junior
and Senior High.
She has received the
Women’s Club Award for
Short Stories, N.E.D.T.
Certificates in seventh,
eighth, ninth and tenth
grades, also the Social
Studies Award in tenth
grade. Marjorie has
participated in band and
chorus for five years. She
has been active in drama
productions, and this year
she is a member of the
yearbook staff. In Senior
High she qualified for the
gifted program. Outside
of school Marjorie is ac-
tive in the Youth Fellow-
ship Group.
