the Lenten season with a
joint Ash Wednesday
service this evening at
7:30 at the Carveton UM
Church, Rev. Dr. Allan

Friends of Mrs. Agnes
Gashi of West Wyoming
honored her at a birthday
dinner on Saturday
evening, Feb. 5, when she
observed a birthday
anniversary.
Richard Pavlovec of
Manor Drive was coming
along nicely at presstime
in Nesbitt Memorial
Hospital, Kingston, where
he underwent surgery on
Thursday.
Dr. John Mandley, Lake
Louise dentist, was a
patient at Wilkes-BAare
General Hospital at
presstime.
Mrs. Ann Scoble,
Carverton Heights, was
reported as improved at
Mrs. Harvey (Ida)
Thornton of Kunkle is a
medical patient in Wilkes-
Barre General Hospital.
United Methodist
Women of Kunkle UM
Church are planning a
Welsh cookie sale for Feb.
28-March 1 at the Kunkle
fire hall. The UM Women
will bake cookies on those
days from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
when orders should be
picked up. Orders should
be placed with any
member of the UM
Women’s Group by Feb.
21 or can be called to Mrs.

Kunkle Fire Company
is conducting an ad-
vanced first aid course of
study at the fire company
hall on Tuesday and
Thursday evenings during
February and March.
About 30 area residents
are enrolled in the course,
under the direction of
Julie Roan, Red Cross
instructor.

Bible Churches and in-
cluded an evangelistic
message. Grace Bible
Church of West Pittston
won the trophy in January
when Word of Life Area
representative David
Rich was the guest
speaker.

service, except the fees as
mandated by the state,
and the service is being
offered at Orange to save
area residents the 30 mile
trip to and from the
county courthouse. Dog
licenses also can be
purchased during regular
buildings.

scouts and cubs of Troop

pated in ‘Snow Camp’
during a recent weekend
at Schroon Lake, N.Y.
The Noxen group placed

competitions.
