The volunteers ex- plained the training needed to serve with the ambulance such as CPR and advanced First Aid. One of the students asked Mrs. Susan Stine, am- bulance nurse, if she ever had to deliver a baby and she explained that she did. The third grade students learned about the ambulance service as part of their education in community service. It was the first time such a demonstration had been presented at the Borough Elementary School. Among other com- munity personnel speaking to the class was Police Officer Clarke Van Orden, who explained his .duties as a patrolman. Airy Rd., Shaver- town. It all started with a story in their reading book. Now, E.S.E.A. Chapter 1 students at Trucksville Elementary are deeply engrossed in the past with their study of dinosaurs. The seven students, who study with Florence Gauthier at Trucksville, will concentrate on the pre-historic animals for several weeks. They will read, watch films, sing songs and perform phonics lessons as a part of the mutli-faceted project. In conclusion, they will write poetry and recite oral book reports Fazzi. which will be taped for replaying. as if it came from another age, with dinosaur books, posters, figures and drawings. Ms. Gauthier noted the project is one of the most popular the students have undertaken to date. ‘‘There is something about dinosaurs which’ fascinates children. I've done this sort of thing before but never to this extent.” Dolores Ostrum, in- structional aide, is assisting with the project. An outstanding student and athlete at Lake- Lehman Senior High School is Tom Yoniski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Yoniski, Jr., of Oak Hill. Tom, a senior, is a three year letterman with the football team where he plays guard or line- backer. He also enjoys baseball and last year played outfield for the high school team. He plans to go out for the team again this year and try out for the same ‘position. This year Tom is vice president of the high school’s Student Council. An honor roll student, he school’s Chapter of the National Honor Society. He is interested in math and following graduation plans to attend Blooms- burg State College where ‘he will major in account- ing. In his leisure time, Tom likes to play basketball in the CYC League. He also enjoys trout fishing. He does a lot of weightlifting which served him well as a member of the football team. Tom likes to listen to music, his favorite group being the Rolling Stones. He not only enjoys sports as a participant but as a spectator and with his father has made numerous trips to watch the professional baseball games in Philadelphia, and the games at West Tom has a younger sister, Missy, a junior high student, who is a member of the Lake- Lehman High School Award-Winning Band. With the second marking period ter- minating Jan. 21 at Lake- Lehman Senior High School, Principal James L. Nicholas released an honor roll comprised of 40 scholars and 105 honors students.
