I — TTR oe REET Gregg Kravitski was honored with a trophy for his out- standing performance throughout the season at Home- coming festivities during the Dallas-Meyers Grid Game last Saturday, Kravitski, at 5°11” and 210 pounds, carried the Mountaineers through many a tough spot during the 1982 season. He is seen receiving the trophy for “‘Out- standing Offensive Player” by High School principal Edgar Hughes. The award was given by School Director, Al Pisaneschi. Wilkes-Barre Fats \ BY LEE L. RICHARDS Saturday will ring down the curtain for the Dallas and Lake-Lehman grid teams. While neither team is in contention for the WVC crown, the Back Mountain title is at stake and both will be performing for PRIDE! Coach Ron Rybak’s Mounts need a win to record their second consecutive winning campaign and will rate the favorite’s role. Dallas beat most of the teams it was ex- pected to beat, but was throttled by the top clubs. Lake-Lehman on the other hand, has seemed to gain continuity under first-year Coach Mark Kirk. The Knights enter the game with four wins, double the ’81 output. Talking with various coaches Pll attempt to give you both teams’ strengths and weaknesses, along with what it will take for them to win. DALLAS--Despite some key injuries the Big D lads appear to have the necessary size and muscle to beat the ‘Knights. Steve Federici is questionable due to a back injury. Bernie Walsh has performed well and even threw for two TDs. Mounts are most effective from I formation. Federici was very potent running option series. Matt Moran and Gregg Kravitsky bullish type runners bet- ween the tackles. On defense, Mounts are always blitzing somebody from their four-four alignment. Rollman and Gregg Dukins rugged inside. LAKE-LEHMAN--Coach Kirk has gone mostly with a wing type offense. QB John Williams has functioned well and Que Walczak has been most consistent runner. Chris Lombardo Baker Weekly Bowling Boyle and Al Martin can catch the football, but like Dallas, Knights keep it on the ground. Tracey Slocum is a tough defender. While Lake-Lehman hasn’t put a heap of points on the board, the defense has played brilliantly at times. Led by linebackers Bob Miller and Tom Yoniski- and Marty Onzik and Eric Masters. Watch Steve Hagen- different looks and will be coming with eight people. The defense is designed to disrupt things and put pressure at the point of attack. Knights are playing more positively as the season pro- gressed. They can’t afford any early turnovers. Must do a lot of slanting and firing to disrupt Dallas offense, They can’t go toe-to-toe. Dallas’ size could be the determining factor; Both teams have been vulnerable in the flats on short passes. Dallas will simply try to control the football and is capable of long sustained drives. This game IS the season for both teams. ~Sorry to learn of the passing of Tom Gauntlett, Sr. He was some competitor on the golf course at Irem and sure illness the last couple of years, too. -GAR’s Larry Koretz narrowed his roundball choices program like Virginia Tech is incomprehensible? It’s obvious the caliber of competition can’t compare. I've gotta believe Larry is selling his ability short, but isn’t that generally the case with most area athletes? Huskers; West Virginia defeated both Oklahoma and Maryland, had an identical record, but was listed behind both; Notre Dame and UCLA both manhandled Michigan, but Bo’s boys were ranked higher? There's an old cliche in college football: ‘If you lose in question the credibility of this poll! week. He's happy in his head coaching ventue at Indiana of Pennsylvania. He didn’t walk into a bed of roses, but has made IUP a team to reckon with in the future. “We’ve made some strides in the right direction. We're becoming more competitive each week. We'll be even better next year,” said the West Pittston native. As predicted, no team in the WVC would finish un- beaten. That's simply because of balance. That means that Coughlin’s Ron Solt and Valley West’s Mark Duda will be spending Christmas Day in Hawaii. Their opponent could be UCLA.
