Dallas and GAR will
clash on Friday night for
the 16th time. The
Grenadiers hold a wide
edge in the series, win-
ning 11, while the
Mountaineers have four
victories. Dallas won four
of the first seven games
played, but has lost the
last eight in a row which
surprised me somewhat.
Dallas’ last two
triumphs in 1972 and 1973
were two of former Coach
Jack Jones better clubs.

several local coaches.
From what I’ve learned,
I'll attempt to give an
insight into what to look
for Friday.
Both teams are very
similar in the way they
move the football and
that’s with little finesse
and a heap of muscle up
front. Both enter the
game 4-0 and have three
common foes, all
dominated.
GAR rates a slight edge
in overall team quickness
and the kicking game.
Both have about the same
size and strength.
Coach Ron Rybak and
Charlie Fick had an extra
week of preparation in
getting ready. That
means both could add a
different wrinkle or two.
Neither team has shown
any consistent air game,
but = neither has really
been forced to put the ball
up. That could be one of
the keys.
Rybak claims his club
can and will throw if the
need presents itself. Fick
says his club: has a very
capable passing game.
Dallas = QB Steve
Federici is the catalyst.
He’s most dangerous
running the football and
has the ability to make
things happen. GAR will
gear its defense to keep
him in check. Federici’s
best play is the option.
However, he’s got two
bullish runners Matt
Moran and Greg
Kravitsky. Paving the
way up front are guards
Jerry Rollman and Greg
Dukinas.
Most observers believe
Dallas will have to throw
the football. Ray
Pickanski and Steve
Thomas are the receivers.
Meanwhile, GAR is led
by QB Dave Roebuck.
He's got a fine arm and
likes to go to SE Bob Wren
in" the ‘clutch. A.J.
Kovalchik is a solid TE.
However, the Grenadiers
have had most of their
success with the run.
Leading the way is game-
breaker ‘Tony Tolbrt.
Bernie Kuskavitch and
Rick Macko are two hard-
nosed blockers and
runners.
Clearing the way up
front are Joe Wielgopolski
and Tony Khalife, whom
many regard as the top
blockers for the Blue &
Gray.

from its 4-4, but will have
to zero in on Tolbert. GAR
has put the ball on the turf
and this could be a factor.
Both defenses has
shown the capacity to get
physical and converge cn
the football.
GAR’s Joe Ruane is a
threat to kick a field goal,
too.
GAR’s defense last
week recorded 11 sacks
against a very mediocre
Valley West team.
Coach Fick says,
“Dallas and. GAR have
had some outstanding
games. This year’s Dallas
team is a gutty group. We
have a lot of respect for
them. They swarm to the
ball defensively. Offen-
sively, they will take it
right to you. I'm sure they
can throw the football.”
Overall, I look for a
close game with the team
making the proper adjust-
ments early and
executing its offense
emerging the victor. GAR
will throw thefootball.
Dallas is going to have to
throw medium-range
passes early to get its
offense in gear. Both
teams must present
threat of the pass and
early.
Both teams have some
competitive people and it
should be a thriller!
CLIPBOARD NOTES--
the last time Dallas beat
GAR was in Meyers
Stadium in 1973, 26-22.
Dallas widest margin of
victory was in 1970, 28-zip.
GAR’s biggest win was in
76 by 28-zip count. Last
year’s score was 13-6.
--Pitt Coach Foge Fazio
told me last week Pan-
thers still have not put it
all together offensively.
He says Panthers not
realizing their potential
as of yet, but when they
do, look for an explosion!
--When is Valley West
Coach Jim Fennell going
to cease with all of the
alibies. The Spartans not
in very good condition and
there’s no excuse for not
lining up properly.
—-Most of grid buffs I've
talked with are backing
the NFL owners in the
strike. Some feel the
owners should write-off
the season and start from
scratch next summer.

Billy Martin may come
back to Yankees? Billy
would be nuts to work for
George again.

for the third straight

(and for the third straight
week, the opponent’s
coach claims his team
didn’t perform up to
expectations). Maybe
Lake-Lehman’s all out

to do with it?
