School Board Members
along with administrative
staff spent the last week
reviewing their decision
to curtail some busing in
the Wyoming Valley West
School District.
The initial decision to
reduce some of the bus
transportation resulted
from a severe budget
crunch and a feeling by
part of the Board that the
tax increase should be
kept very low. Despite the
increased transportaiton
costs, a majority of School
Directors on a phone
canvass by the
Superintendent of Schools
indicated they would be
sympathetic toward
American
restoring the busing cuts.
The Board and ad-
ministration felt that if a
decision were to be, made
late in August to restore
busing it would be better
to have the
restored now as they were
last year. Therefore, all
busing and bus stops in
effect last year will be
continued in the 1982-83
school year. It is possible
that studies will be made
and that adjustments in
busing considered in
future years.
Any questions about
details of busing should be
directed to the school
district’s ‘administrative
offices.
Asphalt
Crews from American
Asphalt Paving Co.
began, last week, to do the
initial work on the Brook
St. and Bohac St.
Improvements contract.
The improvements are
comprised of storm sewer
and street reconstruction.
Long a trouble spot in the
borough, Bohac St. and
Brook St. were omitted
from the boundaries of the
Diaster Project by the
Federal Government
when Disaster Urban
Renewal Funds for
Swoyersville were
reduced from $22 million
to $17 million. Thus, none
of the borough’s Urban
Renewal funds could be
used on those streets. In
light of the omission local
officials. at the urgings of
the residents of the
vacinity, pursued the
current improvements by
way of a short term loan.
This loan will be sub-
sidized by the
municipality's 1983 State
Liquid Fuels Allocation
and the first three
quarters of the 1983
Revenue Sharing
Entitlements.
The project totals
$87,192 and is expected to
be completed within 90
days. Many local officials
are glad to see this trouble
spot solved and put to
rest. Said one, ‘the im-
provements on Bahac and
Brook Sts. will save us
money in the long run by
eliminating the need for
pumping each time it
rains.”

Last week, a com-
player wolked into
Shanky’s and watched
Cooksie' Adams play pool
and agreed that Cooksie
was one of the best. This
unknown pool player, Oje
Lagu, challenged Cooksie
to a game and low and
behold knocked the great
Cooksie off. It looks like
Cooksie will never live
this down according to the
Worler, Cutter and Bobby
Gaydos, Jack Burns and
several others.

Roche, Sibby Cidero and
Gerry Drobenak are
happy these past days as
they crt up within five
games of The Atlanta

The St. Mary’s Bazaar
was a successful affair
especially with the tight
security that was had
around the refreshment
stand. Not too many if any
of the youngsters got any
liquid refreshments on the
strong side that is. This
affair thanks to Eddie
Volack, Len Stefanko and
their committees was well
planned and went off in
pro style.
Pastor Rev. Edward
Sokolowski would like to
thank everyone who
committee
workers and everyone
who attended the recent
St. Nicholas Bazaar. The
affair was another suc-
cessful event.

This column has a big
appology to be made to
John Barbose Jr. and his
brother Joe for not
mentioning their names in
getting the Little League
Field in shape for the
District playoffs. These
two gentlemen, sons of
Mr. and Mrs. John
Barbose Sr. of Gillespie
St., Swoyersville, were
two of the men respon-
sible for keeping the field
in shape for the whole
cutting the grass every
weekend, sometimes
twice a week. Sorry men
but it is never too late to
identify a job well done by
two terrific gentlemen.
