Bob Sr. and his late wife, Louise were two of Stack’s greatest softball boosters. Coach Pasek stated that ‘a $5.00 registration fee ‘will be charged and all ‘boys entering must be ‘accompanied by a parent or guardian. He also said that physicals are being ‘planned and arranged and ‘will be at a later date. -0- Rev. Martin Dacey, pastor of Holy Name of Jesus Church, Shoemaker Street, Swoyersville announced that the parish will hold their Annual Bazaar this coming Thursday, Friday and Saturday, July 8, 9 and 10 at the parish grounds on Wyoming Avenue in Forty Fort between Tripp and Yeager Ave. The bazaar will feature games, fine food and live entertainment. The affair will begin at 6 p.m. each evening. Thursday evening, July 8, Pat Ward, well known clown will appear between 7 and 10 p.m. TV’s Uncle Ted will present his magic show at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Live music will be provided nightly by the Last Minit Band. Now that the Braves are playing respectable ball and leading the West Division of the National League it seems that quite a few others are beginning to get on the band wagon. Cheryl Ann Surgan, a ‘1978 graduate of Wyoming ‘Valley West High School, recently graduated cum ‘laude, from King’s College, Wilkes-Barre ‘with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and At present, Miss Surgan is employed at Jewelcor Inc. in the Gateway Shopping Center in Kingston. . Cheryl is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Al Surgan of Jay Street, Swoyers- ville. The Plug is one of these fence jumpers but Max Chipego won’t accept the change because the Plug has been a Phillie fan all of his life. -0- : Two of the most sur- prised men last weekend were Virgil Furnar and Vince Piazza while they were sipping a few suds at the Italian Ruinita Hall on Oliver Street, Swoyers- ville when a large gen- tleman entered the esta- blishment and sat down to have a cool brew. The two men just looked in amaze- ment as bartender Max Chipego served the gentleman and proceeded to strike up a con- versation. The two young men knew that they saw this big gentleman but couldn’t place him out of uniform or jacket. Max “introduced Walt Michaels,’ coach’ of the New York“Jets to Virgil and Vince. Lo and behold, Vince had a Phillie Eagle shirt on and Walt called him a traitor. The two men were in awe when Walt left as he auto- graphed photos for them and Max, and Walt left a reminder of a lingering bet for the Plug. -0- Congratulations to Bob Ontko Jr., on the fine game he played in the re- cent Unico football game at Wyoming recently. Bob will be getting ready to play in the Big 33 game at Johnstown, on Saturday, July 24. After this game, young Bob will be on his way to Penn State Univer- sity where he will spend the next four years and everyone is rooting for him to make good and with the guts and fortitude that young Bob ‘has, he will do good. -0- Patte’s Sportsmen Bar of Hollenback Avenue, Wilkes-Barre made their annual baseball weekend trip. This year’s trip was to Boston where the club members saw a terrific game on Saturday as ® of their 791 Wyoming Ave. inthe Milwaukee edged out the Red Sox by 11-10. Nine homers were hit. On Sunday, they saw the Brewers beat the Sox again by a 7-5 score. The men left early Saturday morning and got back late Sunday night. Local members who made the trip were John Foglietta, Vince Savoca, Mike Simko, Joe Patatore, Angelo Siracuse, Chick Sikora, Bill Boney and Pluggy Piazza. Their next trip will be to see the Yanks play the Red Sox on Saturday in New York and on Sunday, they will see the Jets play the Houston Oilers. -0- Did you ever pay $108.50 for French fries? Well the six men who made the trip to Boston from Patte’s Sportsmen Bar in Wilkes- Barré did’ Pluggy ‘Piazza was hungry and he asked John Foglietta where a good place to eat was and John said he knew the best. They went into this restaurant and ordered a whole lobster, clam chowder and French fries. They tasted the soup, pushed it aside, did the same with the lobster, pushed it aside and ate the French fries which cost them $108.50 besides the tip. Pluggy and John won’t live this one down. -0- Steve Adamchak Jr. said that his Shanky’s team of the Thursday Nite at the Coal St. Diamond in and will be playing for the top spot this coming week. They will also participate in the tournament at the new Drifton Complex in Hazleton. Shanky’s is one of the teams that was asked to participate for the top record of last year. -0- The Clover Club, Swoyersville held their annual baseball trip to Veterans Stadium last weekend to see the game between the Phillies and the Mets with the Phillies sweeping the five game ho time, especially the president of the Yankee fan club. -0- The Holy Name Society of Holy Trinity Parish of ville will hold an Old Fashion Family Picnic this coming Sunday, July Park in Dallas. HELLO, WSP Milius’ protege duplicates his no-hit, no- run game after 14 years. Fourteen years ago, John Milius, manager of Swoyersville-Bayo’s semi pro team of Scranton Association League, pitched the last no-hit, no- and two weeks ago, Tom Waselewski of Kingston, duplicated the feat of his manager. Young Tom since then also pitched a no-hitter and no-run game with the Swoyersville Legion Team and a few one hitters. He is a graduate of Wyoming Valley West and starred for Jerry Storz’ baseball teams helping to take the Wyoming Valley Con- ference. In the no-hitter in the Scranton = Association League, Tom struck out 21 a 11-0 score, 10-run rule after eight innings. They defeated Bangor Heights. Manager Milius, manager and first base- man for the Swoyersville Club in the Central League and the Scranton League, was also a top pitcher in his younger days until he hurt his arm going for a foul fly. John hurled for Coach George Shendock’s Swoyersville High baseball teams and took several championships for Coach Shendock and Swoyersville. He went to King’s College and helped pitch Coach John Dorish Jr’s teams to a few pennants. While pitching for King’s, Milius faced the following players who ‘are now in the big leagues, Gary Lavelle and Ed Halicki, both with the San Francisco Giants, Ed Ott with California, Randy Martz, Detroit, and John Milner of Montreal. It should also be known that Milius was one of the youngest players to begin semi-pro ball at the age of 14. He is married to the former Elizabeth Evan parents of a daughter, Janelle. Milius is associated with Connolly Inc. of Luzerne. Miner League results: Hose Co. No. 1 lost a close 9-8 game to the first half champs, Varsity Sod team. Steve Willison was the winning pitcher over Dave Powell of the Hose Co. On the mound also for Varsity Sod were Dennis with Gary Miller -cat- ching. Tony Lipinski started on the mound for the Hose Co. Lou Marcin was the winning hurler with Tim Wojnarski catching. Joe June, Eric Pollick and Gerard Emershaw were on the mound for the Bucs with Joe June taking the loss. His brother George, did the catching. Doubles were hit by Lou Marcin, two for the UP and Gerard Emershaw for the Bucs. Umpires were Joe Suda and Tony Strish. -0- Bednarski’s had their hitting shoe on as they trimmed the Hose Co. No. 1 by a 10-4 score. Dave Ash took the win with relief from Joe Amato. Mark Sincavage did the receiving. Bill Quinn and Dave Powell shared the pitching and catching chores with Quinn taking the loss. Extra base hits all by Bednarski’s, three bagger by Mark Sin- cavage and doubles by Joe Amato, Ted Wozniak, Dave Ash and John Demko. Umpires were Joe Suda and John Powell. -0- The June brothers combination did it again as brother Joe hurled his Buccaneers team to a 7-6 win over the Varsity Sod as George did the receiving. Pitcher Joe had 12 strikeouts. Dennis Kelly had 10 strikeouts for Varsity Sod but the losing hurler was Steve Willison who came in to relieve. Catcher was Gary Miller. Dennis Kelly had two PROUDLY PRESENTS DOLLY! J8. 30 Emershaw, coach. doubles and a single for Varsity Sod. Getting to singles apiece for the Bucs were Eric Pollick, Jason Stoodly and Gerard Emershaw. Jim LaNunziata took the win with help from Damien Cavuto, Carl Sprague caught. Robbie LaNun- ziata faced his brother Jim but wasn’t involved in the decision as Kurt Ruch took the loss. Ken Krakoski did the catching for the Lions. Umpires were Steve Gushka and Ozzie Williams. The Lions Club ham- mered out a big 22-2 win over the Cicero team as Denny Hlavac got the win with relief from Mike Golias. Ken Krakosky did the receiving. Mike Romanowski hurled for the Cicero team with Tom Romanowski catching. Denny Hlavac had a triple for the Lions. Umpires were Ozzie Williams, Mike Romanowski, Joe Krakosky. -0- In a close contest, in fact the closest game that the CWV team has had all year, Joe Rhiel shaded Jim LaNunziata in a pitching duel as the CWV team edged out Kiwanis by a 1-0 score. Rhiel gave up one hit a double by Mark Chiazza. He also picked up his 100th strikeout in the third inning. He finished with 13. LaNunziata had 9. Catching for CWV was Rich Burda, Damien Cavuto caught for the Kiwanis. Umpires were Ozzie Williams and Vince Krajnak.
