{ESDAY, JUNE 2, 1982 TEER As «The annual Dallas Junior High School Spring Chorus Concert. was held récently. The chorus, rumbering over 70 girls, performed songs from the Broadway musical, ‘The Sound of Music,” as well as traditional and popular songs. f with ‘several traditional nimbers, the chorus sang two up-beat tunes, “Gonna Rise Up Singing” amd ‘“Rock-A-Ma-Soul.” These were followed by two popular songs, Paul Simon’s ~~ ‘““Sound of Silence” and Besig’s “A Better World”. Soloists of the evening included Elizabeth Morgan singing ‘““Tomorrow’’ from Broadway’s ‘‘Annie’”’, “I Need To Be In Love”, a popular song by Karen Carpenter, sung by Lori Falcone, and Marvin Hamlisch’s “The Way We Were’’ done by Judy Fitch. Other popular songs sung by the chorus were “Happy Days’’, the theme song from the popular television show, ‘‘Mor- ning - Train,” “Nine to Five,” and ‘‘Freebird,” all top-forty songs. Musical selections from the “Sound of Music” featured an overture per- formed on the piano, electric piano, organ, guitar, and xylophone as well as a duet by Christina Williames. Soloists for the songs from this musical included Liz Morgan singing the title song, “Sound of Music,” Beth Adams singing ‘‘Sixteen, Going on Seventeen,’ Leslie Billman doing, “These Are a Few Of My Favorite Things,”” and Kathleen McKeown singing ‘‘Climb Every Mountain’’. The girls, accompanied by Michele Lamoreax, Kathleen McKeown, and Terrell Smith, performed very well, considering the difficulty of some of the popular songs. However, it was the soloists who made the night. Outstanding perfor- mances by ninth-graders Liz Morgan, a soprano, and Judy Fitch, an alto, added much to the overall effect of the chorus as well as giving great solo performances. The two girls have been combining their vocal talents in duets over the past three years at the Junior High School. Both girls have powerful voices which have. helped to make the chorus strong. Director Marie Lewis will cer- tainly miss these two girls when they graduate to Florence Sherwood’s Senior High Chorus next year. * § Moran Photo) Banquet held. at The Westmoreland Elementary P.T.O. held their annual Easter Candy Sale again this year and it was a tremendous success.
