qualified as a finalist in
the program according to
an announcement made
recently by National
Merit Scholarship of-
ficials.
He is among more than
15,000 high school
students nationwide to be
eligible for 1,800 non-
renewable national merit
$1,000 scholarships and
over 3,500 four year merit
scholarships that will be

Smith, a graduate of
Dallas High School and
Wyoming Seminary,
Kingston, is a junior in a
pre-law course at Kenyon
College, and will serve as
president of the Kenyon
Chapter of Beta Theta Pi
during his senior year,
beginning in September.
Smith graduated from
Dallas High School in
1978. He played at the
varsity quarterback spot
for two seasons on Coach
Jack Jones’ Dallas
Mountaineers, and also
quarterbacked the West
Side squad in its win over
the East Side team in the
annual 1978 UNICO
Charity game. He at-
tended Wyoming
Seminary during the 1978-
79 sachool year where he
studies. At Kenyon, Smith
has played at the quarter-
back and corner back
spots for Kenyon’s varsity
grid team.
A sister, Betty - Jane
Smith, who also attended
graduated in June from
Wyoming Seminary, is a
freshman at Kenyon
| College. A brother, Bruce
M. Smith, is a freshman
+at Bloomsburg State
i College where he is a
candidate for Bloom-
sburg’s varsity grid team.
Bruce also attended
Dallas High School and
' graduated in June from
‘Wyoming Seminary.

REV. DR. RICHARD
GREGORY will be the
guest speaker for the
Spring meetings to be
held the week of May 9-14
at the Noxen Independent
Bible Church, Pastor
Jerry Tallent has an-
nounced.
Rev. Dr. Gregory will
open the meetings at the
11 a.m. worship service on
Sunday, May 9, and will
conduct services each
evening through Friday,
May 14 at 7;30.
Rev. Dr. Gregory was
born and raised in
Honesdale, Pa. He
received his bachelor of
arts degree from Shelton
College; his master’s
Divinity degree from
Faith Theological
Seminary at Elkins Park,
Pa., and his doctor of
divinity from Bob Jones
University, at Greenville,
S.C. He pastored formally
at Hopatcong, N.J.;
Perkasie, Pa., and the
Braintrim Baptist Church
in Laceyville. He is pre-
sently pastor of the
Limerick Chapel at
Limerick, Pa.
TROY HUNTER, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth
Hunter, Dallas is
stationed at Carswell Air
Force Base, Texas. Troy
took his Basic Training in
Texas, then went to
Colorado for Tech School.
Troy is assigned to the
Conventional Munitions
Section. He and approxi-
mately 35 other airmen
maintain over $5 million
worth of munitions items.
Troy and his wife, Peggy
Perditis, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. peter Perditis,
Swoyersville, reside in
Fort Worth, Texas.
In an unanimous vote
last week, the Kingston
Township Zoning Hearing
Board granted Shaver-
town photographer Ron
Petro, 358 Howell Road, a
special exception to
operate a studio in his
home. Petro lives in
Midway Manor and plans
occasional portrait sit-
tings.
He explained that most
of his work is done on
location, but senior pic-
tures and certain por-
traits require a studio.
