energy
@ Institutions, resorts and
other large users of energy
®hre beginning to realize
great savings on their
energy bills due to a
relatively new concept
called “energy manage-
ment.”
One local firm that has
been having great success
in promoting this concept
in the east, and especially
in the local area, is Pliscott
Electric of Dallas.
Pliscott, which has been
in the electrical business
for the past 34 years, has
‘been progressively in-
volved in the new technolo-
gical developments made
in their field. Although for
years they had concen-
trated their efforts on
electrical contracting, a
few years ago, Ernie
Pliscott, the company’s
president started a branch
of the business to install
nergy Management
Systems. Seeing the value
of these systems and how
greatly they ' reduced
energy bills, Pliscott ex-
panded their capabilities to
include designing complete
systems for installations.
Along with designing and
installing these Energy
Management = Systems
from Long Island and the
Catskills in New York to
Sioux City, Iowa and Nash-
ville, Tenn., Pliscott
Electric is very capable in
the electrical contracting
area of their business doing
many large jobs including
a million dollar electrical
installation for the
Methodist Nursing and
Elderly Housing Facility,
(Wesley Village) near
Pittston.
One of the greatest
challenges faced by
Pliscott Electric in energy
ay anagement was the
“design and installation of a
complete system for
Shawnee on the Delaware's
Time Sharing Villas. With
200 units spread out over
several miles all controlled
from a central location,
this was a large under-
taking! Also because of
Shawnee on the Delaware's
distinctive decor, it was a
special design problem to
place this modern feature
in the units and still retain
and enhance the rich and
ageless atmosphere that
made the inn famous.
The owners of the
Shawnee Inn realize the
growing need to keep
operating costs within
reasonable limits = and
recognized the importance
that the Scientific Atlanta
ment System installed by
Pliscott would have. Ernie
cited one very good
example of the savings
inherent in Energy
Management Systems.
Pliscott installed a system
for ACTS (Adult Com-
munity Total Services,
Inc.) headquartered in
Spring House, Pa. The first
system was installed in a
165 apartment complex in
1979. When the savings
proved to be double the
projections, they had three
more systems installed a
year later, one for 377
units, a second for a 328
unit complex and the third,
for 300 units. The amazing
performance from these
systems has prompted
them to install a fifth
system in Boca Raton,
Florida.
Ernie ' Pliscott- pointed
out that the one drawback
in dealing with EMS’s is
that many would-be buyers
are not convinced that their
savings could be so high.
Unfortunately this line of
thinking keeps the wasteful
over use of energy con-
tinuing. Yet, a professional
survey can almost
guarantee what percentage
of savings can be realized.
With the advantages avail-
able with today’s
technology, more facilities
are cutting the high cost of
energy consumption, and
with progressive business
like Pliscott Electric, our
area may once again find
itself on top of the
economical ladder.
