flared tempers on both
teams, Meyers Mohawks
redeemed themselves for
their loss to Bishop Hoban
last week by defeating
Lake-Lehman Knights 27-
0.
Both the Mohawks and
Knights played with such
intensity that they lost
their tempers and were
penalized for -unsports-
manlike conduct by the
officials.
Both' teams lost their
tempers on numerous
occasions during the first
half and in the third
period, players from both
teams including those on
the bench broke out on the
field.
However, both: team
coaches broke up the
incident ‘and, with the
teams warned by of-
ficials, Coach Mike
Lowery and Coach
Mickey Gorham . pre-
vented further incidents:
Meyers used a balanced
attack gaining 147 yards
rushing and 138 yards
passing. The Knights
rushed for 68 yards and
had a total of 51 yards in
the air.

A.J. Minichello paced
the Mohawks rushing and
scored three of the
Mohawks four touch-
downs. Minichello scored
from the 30 yard line,
went over from the one
and scored his final touch-
down on an 11 yard run.
The Mohawks scored
their first touchdown .in
the first ‘quarter when
Spence scored on a 16
yard touchdown pass
from Ken White.
Early in the second
quarter, the Mohawks
used an 82 yard march
down field which ended
with Minichello’s 30 yard
tossed a two point conver-
sion pass to Spence to give
the Mohawks a 14-0 ad-
vantage. Just before the
end of the first half Mini-
chello scored his second
touchdown by leaping
over from the one yard
line. The kick for extra
point was blocked.
The Mohawks scored
once more in the second
half despite: sloppy
playing and numerous
penalties.
Meyers had 14 penalties
nine for 75 yards.
The season comes to'an
end Saturday when the
Knights play the Moun-
taineers at Dallas in the
traditional Old Shoe
game. :
The Surf clinched first
place in Division II with a
4-0 victory over the
Strikers and a come from
behind 2-2 tie with the
Sounders a day later. The
Cosmos’ chances for tying
the Surf for the division
lead were dashed despite
a 3-1 win over the
Whitecaps. The Surf
finsished with: a 13-1-4
record. The Cosmos
reached a 13-3-1 record.
Jeff Tinner scored twice
and Tyler Wilson scored
once. and recorded an
their win over the
Strikers. Brad Wall
notched the fourth Surf
goal and Doug Doerfler
assisted Tinner’s first
goal. Joyce Tinner and
Lor Warneka led the Surf
defense.
The Sounders struck
early jumping to a 2-0 first
half lead over the Surf. Al
Manzoni, playing only his
second game at forward,
booted home the first goal
after taking a pass from
winger Ken Kozel. Jim
Lister added a single tally
a few minutes later and
the Sounders held. a 2-0
half-time edge, which
could have been larger
except for the goal ten-
ding of Bob Ashworth:
But the Surf roared
back to knot the score
with a pair of third period
goals by Doug Doerfler.
Jeff and Joyce Tinner and
Tyler Wilson turned in
strong performances for
the victors.
The Cosmos fell behind
1-0 early as Matt Reinert
scored for the Whitecaps
off a fine cross by Matt
Jones. But Scott Shafer
led a relentless Cosmos
attack that resulted in
three unanswered
Cosmos’ goals lifting the
Cosmos to a 13-3-1 record.
Shafer scored the first two
goals and set up Paul
Melone for the final goal.
Mark Krohn and .Joe
Brennan helped the
Cosmos control the mid-
field but got some stiff
resistance from
Whitecaps’ Leigh Ann
Wiedlich.
The Sounders improved
their record to 8-3-6 with a
2-1 win over the Timbers
prior to the Surf match.
Jammie Lister scored
once and assisted Hugh
Mundy on another
Sounder goal. Al Manzoni
set up Lister’s goal with a
nice assist. - Eric Mahler
scored for the Timbers off
a pass from Dale Root to
narrow the margin, but
excellent goal tending by
Charles’ Leaf and strong
play by Marty Reynolds
and John Kirshbaum
frustrated the Timbers.
Jeff Pisapeschi played a
strong game at mid-field
for the Timbers.
In other games, the
Roughnecks shut out the
Kicks 2-0 and the Chiefs
and the Tornadoes battled
to a 1-1 tie.
The Roughnecks
combined flawless goal
tending by Lee Williames
with unselfish offense for
their first victory. Passes
by Eric Rosentel and
field dominance by Jon
Strange led to’ goals by
Noah Berlatsky and Judd
Krivenko. Jonathan
Ursiak pressed the Kicks’
attack with help from
half-back Scott Moore.
Mario Liva and
Jonathan Reich traded
goals in the Chiefs and
Tornadoes deadlock.

The Tornadoes avenged
their loss to the Timbers
by a 3-1 score and the

season finales. In make-
up games, the Sounders
dropped the Aztecs and
the Kicks dropped the
Surf.
The Timbers broke on
top in the first quarter as
Mike DePolo, assisted by
Keith Kozel, slipped one
under the Tornadoes’
goalie and held a 1-0 edge
for the first three quar-

back play and mid-
fielders Lee and Jodi
Bradley enabled the-
Cosmos to dominate play.
Amy Kowalski and Renee
Strausser stood out for the
Aztecs.
The Whitecaps blanked
the Strikers 3-0 as Brian
Hampel scored twice and
Greg Burak tallied a
single goal. Andrea
Mazur’s half-back play
created several offensive
opportunities for the
Whitecaps. Regan Litz,
Christian Olson, and Ken
Wall pressured the
Whitecaps goal but could
not score for the Strikers.
The Chiefs defeated the
Sounders 3-0 as Pat
Morris scored a goal in
each of the first three
quarters to notch the hat
trick. Mike Tomaine, P.J.
Goodwin, and Emergy
Yurko assisted Morris.
The Chiefs were aideSly
strong play from half-
back Luke Mercer and
half-backs Gianna San-
tarelli and Bruce Stearn.
Benjie Lawrence and

Sounders.
In Sunday make-up
games, the Sounders
closed the season with a 4-

The league champion
Chiefs ended the season
with a 3-2 victory over the
Whitecaps and extended
the margin by which they

the championship.

Salmon (Salmo salar) in
Pennsylvania:
The landlocked salmon
is a game species highly
responsive ‘to manage-
ment ‘and prized by
anglers. Under the appro-

priate habitat conditions
and management, land-
locked salmon popula-
tions can be expected to
satisfactory quantity and
quality. Survey efforts
have identified the suit-
ability of Harveys Lake,
Luzerne County for the
introduction and develop-
ment © of landlocked
salmon. General con-
siderations involved in the
included the large, deep
size of the lake, dissolved
oxygen content, tempera-
ture, and an abundance of
smelt. As studies continue
and more detailed in-
formation becomes avail-
able, other waters may be
identified that contain
suitable habitat. In order
to insure fair distribution
of thre catch and main-
tain the fishery, however,
harvest regulations are
necessary. A poster
depicting the distinctive
features of landlocked-
salmon and trout has been
prepared for anglers.
There is a very similar
resemblance between the
landlocked salmon and
the Brown Trout. -
