our defense, they made
too many fundamental
mistakes in Friday
night's game,” said
Dallas Coach Ron Rybak
after the Mountaineers 13-
6 loss to GAR. “‘It disturbs
me. After four games of
doing things right, ‘now
they're doing things they
shouldn’t do. They're not
concentrating on the field-
‘-not doing what they've
been told to-do.
change some things,
breakdown the defense
and straighten them out,
or if we need to we'll
replace some of them.
“Our offense has been
‘defense is giving the of-
fense the ball too far back.
They're depending too
much on Bordley. He
can’t do it all. In Friday’s
game he ran 153 of our 245
yards on offense,”
Dallas offense, led by
Norm Bordley, ran
through and around the
GAR defense, Friday
night, but the Grenadiers
stopped the big Moun-
taineers on the critical
plays.
In turn the GAR offense
ran and ran and ran the
Mountaineers defense the
entire game and went
around the side or sweeps
off tackle, enough to de-
feat the bigger and
stronger team 13-6.
Both teams went score-
less the first quarter but
in the second quarter
when Kevin Elmy
recovered a Mountaineer
fumble late in the period.
Grenadier
Dave Roebuck threw two
incomplete’ passes then
Tolbert
Macko who ran it in from
the 37 yard line for a
touchdown. Joe Ruane
kicked the extra point to
put GAR in the lead 7-0 at
the half.
In the third quarter
and played a perfect 67
yard march to’ the two
yard line from where
Tolbert took it over for six
points: The attempted
pass for two points failed
The Mountaineers came
alive in the fourth quarter
and on an 82 yard drive
Bordley took the ball over
for a touchdown. A pass
for the two extra points
failed.
On its final possession,
the Mountaineers drove
for a second touchdown
with" 43 seconds in, the
game, GAR held the
Mountaineers from
scoring and the Dallas
consecutive game on the
artificial turf.
The loss all but puts the
Mountaineers out of the
running for the title in the
conference--overall or
Division II, although
much depends upon their
remaining five games.
“This week we play
Crestwood at home. We
can’t ‘take them too
lightly. The Comets are no
pushover. Our kids need
to remember while we're
practicing these other
teams are practicing and
getting better each game.
They have to start con-
centrating out there on
the field.”
