Carol enjoys cooking.
Recently, while on
vacation from her job as
gift manager at Back
Mountain Lumber and
Coal Company, Carol
spent the entire week
reparing the Mill's
avorite goodies. The Mill
family enjoys most foods
with Carol and her
husband, Herb, especially
enjoying an occasional
Chinese meal.
Both Carol and Herb
are from Shavertown;
both are graduates of
Dallas High School. Herb,
a graduate of Wilkes
College, owns and
operates The Mill, a
clothing outlet featuring
mens, women’s and
children’s clothing;
located on Rte. 309.

grade, Angie in seventh
grade. Baseball is a
common interest among
the Mills. angie played on
the White Sox team this

played baseball and Carol
and Herb each managed a
softball team.
Carol’s hobby is her
spoon collection. She has
collected over 100 spoons
from various countries.
Her latest spoon search is
for the spoon from the
Royal Wedding featuring
a picture of the Prince
and Princess of Wales.
BREAD AND BUTTER
PICKLES
16 c. sliced cucumbers
4 1g. onions
3 c. sugar
4 t. salt
4 t. mustard seed
3 c. vinegar
3 c. water
1 t. tumeric
Boil sugar, vinegar,
water and spices
together. Add cucumbers
and onions. Cook until:
cucumbers and onions
start ‘turning yellow.
Pack in jars and seal.
Makes 4 quarts.
ZUCCHINI BREAD
3 eggs
1 c. oil
1% c. sugar
2 c. grated zucchini
2 t. vanilla
2 c. flour
Ys t. baking powder
2 t. baking soda
3 t. cinnamon
1 t. salt
1 c. raisins
1 c¢. walnuts, chopped
Beat eggs in a large
bowl. Stir in sugar,
zucchini, oil and vanilla.
Sift on wax paper dry
ingredients and add to egg
mixture. Add chopped
nuts and raisins. Bake at
375 degrees for 1 hour.
Makes two 8x5x3 loaf
pans.
PISTACHIO MARBLE
CAKE
1 pkg. yellow cake mix
1. 3-oz. pkg. pistachio
instant pudding.
4 eggs
1 c. water
1 ¢. oil
1% t. almond extract
4 c. chocolate syrup
Combine cake mix.
pudding, eggs, water, oil
and extract in bowl. »
Blend then beat 2 ¥
minutes. Measure out 1%
cups of batter into a bowl.
Stir chocolate syrup into
the 1% cups batter. Spoon
batters alternately into
greased, floured 10‘
bundt pan. Bake at 350
degrees for 50 minute.
DARK CHOCOLATE
CAKE :
2 c. sugar
2 c. sifted flour
34 c¢. cocoa
2 eggs, beaten
Y c. salad oil
1 c. milk
2 t. baking soda
1 t. baking powder
1 t. salt
5 t. vanilla
1 c. strong boiling coffee
Mix all ingredients
together thoroughly. Add
boiling coffee. Bake at 350
degrees for 40 minutes in
a 9x13 baking pan.

Lake-Noxen Parrish.”
Classmates Class of
First United Methodist
Church of Noxen will
sponsor a benefit clothing
party: in the church
basement Saturday from
10 a.m. to4 p.m. The sale
will feature designer
brands such as Jordache,
Gloria Vanderbilt, Sergio
Valenti, Sasoon and
Calvin Kline in summer
and fall styles. A bake
sale will be held in con-
junction with the sale.
The week of bible time
is underway at Noxen
Independent Bible Church
and will continue thru
Friday. Morning sessions
for younger children get
underway at 9:30 a.m.;
for teens in the evening.

go towards a new am-
bulance. Area residents

association in its efforts to
keep ambulance service
