Most Back Mountain
residents are familir with
Adam’s Clothes in the
Back Mountain Shopping
Center, Shavertown.
However, few are aware
that Adam’s Clothes has
been in business since
1902.
The first store was
opened by Adam
Hozempa,II’s, father on
Main St., Edwardsville.
The late Hozempa opened
the business under the
name ‘‘Hozempa’s Men's
Clothing”. He first started
as a tailor but expanded
into a complete line of
men’s: clothing still
carried by his son and
grandson in the
Shavertown store.
Adam Hozempa,II,
opened Adam’s Clothes in
the Back Mountain
Shopping Center in 1958.
Prior to that time he
worked with his father in
the Edwardsville Store.
Following the death of
his father, Adam operated
both stores for a while.
The’ Edwardsville was
part of the estate but the
Shavertown store was his
own business.
Adam is married to the
former Anne Connole of
Kingston, who assists in
the business on Saturdays
and holidays.
Residents of Harveys
Lake, Adam and Anne
have two children, Beth,
living in California, and
Adam,III, who now
manages the business
most of the time since his
father is semi-retired
Both father and son are
expert tailors and do all of
the work on purchases
made in their store.
Adam, III, resides with
his wife, the former Patti
Sheddon . of Towanda, in
Tunkhannock. A former
teacher in the Abington
Heights School District,
he resigned to take over
management of Adam’s
Clothes. His wife, Patti,
still teaches in the Middle
School of the Abington
Heights School District.
Adam’s Clothes is a one
stop shopping center for
both men and young
men’s clothing as well as
the spot for jeans, jackets
and tops for the younger
set.
For the man with
‘‘discrimiating taste”,
Adam’s carries a ‘com-
plete line of clothing in
brand names such as
London Fog, Arrow,
Haggar, Catalina, Hang
Ten, Collegetown,
Munsingwear, Hanes, and
many others.
Young men and women
will find jeans to suit their
taste made by Wrangler,
Levi or Lee. Woolrich
outerwear, popular with
young and old, is also
carried by Adam’s
