The countdown to the
29th annual UNICO East-
West football game
continued last week. Both
teams are really cranked-
Coach Marv Antinnes
(Wyoming Sem) says:
‘We've had some good
practice sessions and the
players grasped the of-
fense quickly. Our chief
Lake-Lehman;
Harry Reese,
up and practices have
gone off quite well ac-
cording to both coaching
staffs.
Iwas sorry to learn that
Dallas’ Ron Kelley passed
up the game and traveled
on down to South Carolina
to be with his Dad. Ron
would bave been a good
weapon for the West
which appears to be a bit
short of offensive guns.
concern is to develop
some sort of rhythm in
our running and passing
attack. We're hoping to
be able to keep the foot-
ball away from the East.
We've got a real solid
defensive team, but we
can’t allow them to spend
too much time on the
field.’
Valley West Coach Jim
Fennell has been coor-

that isn’t real quick in
drills or sprints, but he
sure does know how to
follow the football and hit
people. Wyoming Area’s
Paul Havrilla has ex-
cellent * technique for a
LB. He and Mike give us
two quality LBs. Louis
Cizmpi (Nose Guard)
makes us pretty solid
down the middle. We're
going to try to work some
things to keep those
people free to chase the
ball carrier,” pointed out
Fennell.
The East will attempt to
counter with the likes of
QBs Barry Waseleski of
Meyers and Steve
Morrissey of Hanover.
Both have been throwing
the football with a lot of
consistency in the drills.
This is a concern with
West ‘especially with
GAR’s scatback Ed
Amendola turning the
flanks.
‘Our offense has been
coming together,” says
Hoban coach Nick
Ametrano. ‘We're still
not as smooth in our
timing as we’d like.
Pittston’s Al Michalec,
the third leading rusher
Patriot history, can also
explode for huge chunks
of yardage. If we click on
offense, we’ll be all right.’
Defensively, Nanticoke
Area Coach will employ
Greg Golanowski
(Nanticoke Area) and
Larry McMullins (GAR)
at the ends. Golanowski is
6-4, 255, but surprised
some folks with his ability
to react and pursue.
McMullins is a dynamite
hitter.

going on, the UNICO
Game and the folks
dedicating the game to
my Dad, Luke, it was just
impossible.
Dave Davis was on
hand for a practice round
with Jim Balmer and son,
Jeff, the fine golfer from
Dallas High. Dave
managed to cop two
duckets for Saturday’s
>
round and was headed
back down the Turnpike.
He told me that unless the
greens got hard and slick
the tour regulars would
shoot lightsout.

Another Dallas golfer,
Jim Smith, took in the
opening round on Thur-
sday with former Irem
Temple Golf president,
Bucky O’Neil. I'm
looking forward to Jimmy
giving me some of the
pointers he picked up.
While on the subject of
golf, I'd like to extend my
congratulations to the J.J.
McCarthy Committee and
Wyoming Valley Pro,
Rich Faison for the super
manner in which they ran
the annual event last
weekend. It’s the best
tournament I’ve ever had

food was superb and the
warm greeting all of the
workers gave the players
