Paul Hartzel, Adele Correale, Gate of Heaven School held its 3rd Annual Academic and Athletic Awards Night on Tuesday, June 2nd in the school auditorium. All seventh and eighth grade students who had achieved a B-plus average or better during the academic year were commended and received Ne certificates of honor. Eighth grade students: who were honored with plaques for exceptional scholastic ability were: Lynn Austin, Highest Average for Girls; Paul Hartzel, Highest Average for Boys and Social Flynn, award for Science and an award for | J 675-2500 your wedding with beautiful flowers. Mathematics; Paul Segrave-Daly, award for Religion; and Adele Correale, award for English. Lynn Austin and John Spencer received the American Legion awards. Eighth grade students who participated in basketball cheerleading received special jackets to acknowledge their ex- tracurricular activities. The 'boy’s varisty basketball team had an undefeated season and were the West Side and Champions of their league. Each member of the championship team received a special trophy for this accomplishment. The team and their coaches, Walter Blejwas and Joe Boyle, presented the school with the championship trophy. The prize winning 7th and 8th grade Mathematics teams presented their trophies to the school and gave Sister Lucian, RSM, the 7th and 8th grade math teacher, a gift. The evening closed with light refreshments served to the parents, faculty and students present. Class and Awards Night was celebrated at Lake- Lehman High School, Wednesday, June 3. The evening opened with a roll call, an introduction of all seniors participating in class night. This was followed by singing of the class song with words written by senior Mary Stefanowicz. The highest ranking boy and girl in the senior class were presented a scholarship award by the Harveys Lake Women’s Club. Recipients of these awards were Karen Williams and David Penkrot. The Lake Silk- worth Lioness Citizenship Award was presented to Michael DeCesaris and Mary Stefanowicz. The Hazel Baer Award, founded in memory of the deceased member of the Lake-Lehman faculty, was bestowed upon Karen Williams for her proficiency in mathematics. The Lake- Lehman Education Association Scholarship was presented to Ron HOME __ | OWNERS | $7 30 us installation Swingle. Other awards and recipients included Rotary Book Scholarship awarded to and accepted by Noah Davis and Tracey Jones; Jaycees and Jay-C-ettes award to ‘Karen Williams. The F.B.L.A. Award was presented to Carolyn Kocher, and the Luzerne County Association of Educational Secretaries Award was received by Diana Muller. Jackie Williams was named the Outstanding Softball Player and Mike Leskowsky was presented a citation from the Pennsylvania Senate for his outstanding achievements in the athletic program. Health Assistants awards were received by Bonnie Budner, Jody Lowery, Lisa Martin, Sandra Nichols, Debbie Symonds, Phyllis Szurgocinski and Jackie Williams. Recipients of Who’s Who in Music 9to5 Awards were Paul Wolensky, Lisa Martin, Lori Robey, Mary Stefanowicz, © Annette Rittle and Noah Davis. Tracey Jones, Deb Cooper, Wally Kocher, Paul Saneholtz, Tina Cooper, Jody Lowery, Barbara Perrego and Valerie Shiskowski were recognized for their cooperation and par- ticipatin on the yearbook staff. Recognition was given to Tom Carle, Jim Cannon and Patricia Harvey as members of the Key Club. Seniors named to the National Honor Society were James Cannon, Susan Conaway, Michael DeCesaris, Patricia Harvey, Susan Jones, Tracey Jones, William Jones, Carolyn Kocher, Sandra Major, Lisa Martin, Diana Muller, David Penkrot, Donna Reina, Walter Rhode, Annette Rittle, Debra Romanski, Paul Saneholtz, Tammy Smith, Mary Stefanowicz, Michael Wendel, Karen Williams and David Wolfe. Several musical selections were presented by the class. Soloists include Mike Leskowsky, Deb May, Donna Reindy Annette Rittle, Lavelle, Bonnie Forster, Lori Robey and Mary Stefanowicz.
