PAGE TEN The Noxen-Monroe Sportsmans Club will hold its 9th annual Rattlesnake Round-up on June 19, 20, and 21, at the Club Grounds, Noxen. Proceeds from this an- nual event are used to operate the Club’s co-op trout hatchery in con- junction with the Penna. Fish Commission. Highlights of last years hunt drew contestants from an eleven state area, providing a field of hunters numbering close to a hundred strong. Seventy-two snakes were captured, without harm to the snakes or hunters. Trophies were awarded for the snake having the most rattles, the largest, the smallest snakes, and the contestant capturing the most snakes. In compliance with the rules and regulations of the Penna. Fish Commission, all snakes were returned to their natural habitat, unharmed, at the con- clusion of the hunt. Lew Hackling Jr. and Shawn Murphy, report the club grounds will be open at 4 p.m., Friday the 19, until the close of the hunt at 7 p.m. Sunday the 21. Games, food and refresh- ment will be available on the grounds. Bluegrass music provided by the “Back Mountain String Band” on Friday and Saturday evenings. All rattlesnakes cap- tured will be on display to the public in a separate fenced in area known as the “Pit Area’ during the hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Bleachers have been provided overlooking this area, which is closed to the public for safety and enjoyment. Contestants wishing to participate in the hunt may register at the Club House starting at 4 p.m. Friday. Rules of the hunt are: 1. All contestants must be of sound mind and body. 2. All snakes must be captured unharmed. 3. All snakes become the property of the Noxen- Monroe Sportsmens Association and will be released to their natural habitat in compliance with the laws of the Penna. Fish Commission. 4. Uncaged snakes may not be transported to the Club Grounds at any time. 5. Hand guns or other weapons are not allowed on the grounds by con- testants or the general public. : Harveys Lake Bassmasters member Ed Straka is currently top point man in the club. The 1981 Tournament Season is underway and Ed has fished three tournaments. He took the lunker trophy and prize at Lake Wallanpaupak with a two Ib. 14 oz. fish. He also placed 8th out of 100 contestants, June 6, at Raystown Lake with a total weight of 4 lbs. 10 07S. Close behind is another Harveys Lake Bassmaster Arnie West. He placed 10th,. Phillies The Centermoreland Phillies won both of their games last week in the Majors Division of the Bob Horlacher Memorial Little League and seem headed for the division championship. With just four games left to play, the Phillies held a two game lead over second place Beaumont Braves on a record of nine wins in 11 games played through last week. The Braves in 11 starts. Phillies came up with a against the Braves, emerging victorious by a 5-1 score.
