Following 2 graduation he plans to enter the U.S. Navy sometime during the summer and go into the Navy’s nuclear science program. This week’s In the Spotlight student at Lake- Lehman, Dana is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Gross. He has an older brother, who graduated from West Side Tech, and a younger sister, who attends Lake-Lehman. He also is a member of the high school’s Ski Club and is .in the school’s intra- mural program. job working with horses on a local ranch. In his leisure time which is limited, he goes hunting for turkey, small game, and deer when they are in season. He also likes fishing, preferably fresh water fishing but he has gone salt water Dana Gross students, were second place winners. Terrell will be awarded a U.S. Savings Bond of $50 which has been donated by Air Products: and Chemicals Inc., Hanover Twp., Wilkes-Barre, underwriter of the ‘Nova’ series on public TV 44. Based on a ‘‘nova’’ segment, ‘“The Asteroid And The Dinosaur,” Terrell’s winning essay focuses on some of the ' theories which explain the extinction of the dinosaur. Lori and Ed will receive engraved plaques, also donated by Air Products. The winners awarded their prizes last week at the studios of WVIA, Pittston. Par- ticipating in the ceremonies were Dr. John E. Walsh, WVIA president; Walter H.R. Mohr Jr., director of I- TV; Brookman March, manager of Air Products and Chemicals, and Carol Nelson, contest director of fishing several times. Dana also has gone to Canada fishing. During the winter Dana enjoys snowmobiling, ice skating and fishing. He does a lot of reading, especially war novels. Dana says the faculty at Lake-Lehman care a lot about the students and that the sports program has greatly improved. He says there are good academic courses for college preparation. He believes, however, that there could be a more organized intra-mural program. Scores of Wyoming Seminary students received various prizes and awards for their work in school and extra curricular activities which included in- volvement in the com- munity at the school’s annual awards day assembly recently. Grosek, Dallas; Christopher = Gunster, Dallas, Sarah Pierson, Dallas, Yu-Ling Shao, Dallas; and Kenneth An evening course in Fundamentals of Microprocessors has been added to the summer schedule at Penn State- Wilkes-Barre. The course, which will carry three credits, will be offered on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from June 6 to Aug. 13. On Tuesdays, the course will run from 6 to 10:15 p.m. and on Thursdays it will run from 6 to 8:05 p.m. The course will be taught by Joseph J. Perkowski, assistant professor of engineering at Penn State-Wilkes Barre. -Thorne, Dallas. In other awards, five students received the yearbook award. He plays intra- mural basketball and volleyball. In his leisure time David enjoys biking, tenniss and fresh water fishing, particularly for bass. During the summer months he goes to Maryland, Virginia and the Jersey Shore. Dave likes listening to music and his favorites are R.E.O. Speedwagon and The Eagles. He works part time at Humphreys Bootery in the Back Mountain Shopping Center. Dave believes that the math and science programs at Dallas High are outstanding but he would like to have a four year calculus program. He also thinks that the seniors should have off- campus lunch breaks.
