CITIZENS AWARDS-Winners of the 1981 Back Mountain
Citizens of the Year Awards were honored at a dinner
last week by members of the Inter-Service Club Council.
Dallas Lions Club hosted the dinner attended by
representatives of both women and men’s service clubs.

Lynn Ritts’ has been
notified that she has been
accepted for the 1981
Pennsylvania Governor’s
School for the Arts which
runs from July 12 to Aug.
15 at Bucknell University:
She was selected as one of
250 students from over
2,000 applicants who will
participate in this year’s
program.
Miss Ritts’ is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Grandview Ave., Dallas.
She has been a private art
student ‘at ‘Sue Hand’s
Imagery in Dallas for
several years, attaining
numerous awards and
honors for her art work.
This past year in the
Northeastern Pennsyl-
vania Scholastic Art
Exhibition, she received
her third Gold Key and
was awarded the Dorothy
Brace Barber Watercolor
Award.
Lynn is a junior student
School. There she is an
honor student recently
inducted into the National
Honor Society: She is also
active on the Student
Council, the yearbook
staff, Glee Club,
Awareness Group and is
captain of the varsity
cheerleaders for the 1981-
82 season. Lynn also has
been named to Who’s Who
Among American High
School students.
The Dallas High School
Nutrition classes recently
completed a series of
nutrition programs with
the kindergarten students
from the Dallas
Elementary Schools. The
highlight of the program
was a visit. by the kin-
dergarten students to the
The high school
students plan a variety of
activities that involve the
entire class and the
kindergarten pupils in the
learning process. They
plan the lessons and make
up their own: props. For
the final lesson, all the
favorite’ characters and
skits: from previous
programs were reviewed
with’ the kindergarten
pupils. The cafeteria
program also was ex-
plained and everyone
toured the cooking area
and learned where the
food was prepared.
The program concluded
with- a complete lunch
prepared by Custom
Foods and served by the
students.
The nutrition educatio
and training program is
funded by the Federal
Government ° through
Intermediate Unit 18 and
involves 80 high school
pupils and 105 Kin-
dergarten students. Eight
lessons were planned
involving the basic four
food groups, breakfasts,
lunches, snacks, and the
cafeteria.
Kindergarten teachers
involved in the project
were Elaine Moran,
Marilyn Klick, Lucille
Callahan, Margaret
Collett,” and Joyce
Youren. Senior High
Nutrition teacher is
Lavada Riggins. Con-
sultant for the program is
Barbara Mead.
