He drove one of the vans of choir members from the Summit Baptist Christian Academy, which took part in the Christian Schools national competition at Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C. Purcell, 62, of RD 7, Manor Drive, Shavertown, died April 24 at his home following a prolonged illness. Born in Bremerton, Wash., he was the son of the late Peter and Hazel Love Purcell. He attended the Arts Students League of New York City and was a Navy veteran of World War II. IN 1977 he retired Lfrom the position of coordinator of commer- cial art at Luzerne County Community College. This year’s eleventh’ annual LCCC art exhibit was pre- sented in his honor. Purcell had worked in the field of art and illustrations for over 38 years. For 30 years he had been associated with D.C. Publications. His illustration credits range from science fiction covers for Mercury Ralph E. Walp, Jr., 63, of 71 N. Lehigh St.; Shavertown, died April 24 in General Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born in Wilkes-Barre, Sept. 3, 1917, he was the son of the late Ralph E., Sr. and Beatrice Thomas Walp. He had been a resident ‘of Shavertown the past 24 years. A graduate of Kingston Township High School and Wharton School of Finance, he had also attended King’s College. He was employed by United Penn Bank, Wilkes-Barre as a vault teller. Walp formerly was employed at = Sears, Wilkes-Barre, from which he retired in 1978. Keiper, 85, formerly of Shaver- town, died Sunday, April 19 in Hampton House Nursing Home, Hanover Township. Born in Ceasetown, she was a daughter of the late: Joseph and Carrie Santee Randall. She resided in Dorrance and Shavertown most of her life. During World War II she worked in a Defense Department canteen in Chester. She was a former member of Glenview Primitive Methodist = Church, Shavertown. She was pre- ceded in death by her husband, Berlin H. Keiper, who died in 1957.
