In keeping with the high school’s emphasis on a total educational climate a new program of studies has resulted in improved achievement test scores and college board scores. Statistics released from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Eduea- tional Quality Assessment is that Lake-Lehman Senior High School students ‘placed in the 95 percentile in the category “Interest in School and Learning.” This appears to provide the evidence of the success of the varied programs instituted by the school district’s board of directors. Since the initiation of the Industrial Department 10 years ago, the program has progressed from the traditional two-laboratory wood and metal course offering to a department with six laboratories and 20 course offerings. More than 50 percent of the school’s enroll in the industrial arts courses and many. of these courses are filled before other course of- ferings during the annual course selection period. Major goals of the program are basic job entry skills or improved standings for post secondary education. The fact that the program is conducted by industrial arts educators has caused a major effort to keep the program congruent with the ideals and principals of a good industrial arts program whiel teracting with some goals of a vocational natures.
