Kozemchak We have a very extraordinary display at the library Mrs. George Jenkins have allowed us to exhibit their to national doll house standards, which is on a scale of one inch for one foot; however, instead of dolls, this house is inhabited by mice. a Jenkins built the house in his workshop at hom& in. cluding the siding and the windows. The doors are made similar to a regular door. He has used real brick around the basement walls and there are 1190 individual shingles on the roof, all glued on separately. Some of the furniture inside is made from kits and their 11 year old grandchild helped with some of this. He made the four poster bed with canopy and a friend made the cross-stitched bed- spread. Mrs. Jenkins made most of the items in the children’s room, which includes the crib, a rocking horse, a high chair, and a toy box. The wallpaper is standard doll house wallpaper and the fireplace is real brick. Using mice instead of dolls is somewhat of a family tradition and this house has a mother, father, two brothers and a baby sister. Rugs are special, many are copies of orientals. ai Jenkins retired about 10 yéars ago. They have a trailer and have traveled extensively to Colorado, Key West, New England, Yellowstone and have put about 60,000 miles on the trailer. Many of the items for the house were bought on these trips. Jenkins is also interested in photography and Mrs. Jenkins does knitting and needlepoint and delivers books to our shut-ins. It took them about a year to com plete this mouse house. It isa delight to look at and enjoly from the fire irons and candlesticks that are so authentic to the copper bowl, from a copper mine, on the dining room table.Guess what the mice have for pets? Would you believe kittens? This is a beautiful work of art and weg! a trip to the library to see. Thank you, George and Janice Jenkins! New books at the library: ‘“‘Firestarter’ by Stephen King is the story of Charlie, an eight year old girl who sets her teddy bear on fire...by looking at it. Her parents taught her to control this ability but a veiled government agency want this pigtailed ‘ultimate weapon’. “The Two Bishops” by Agnes Sligh Turnbull is an unusual and wonderfully warm-hearted love story, rich in insight and incidents. The story of retired Bishop Ware and his successor, Bishop Armstrong. Into these lives comes a radiant young woman along with tangles and triumphs. Libraries are not just for bookworms. Libraries are also for music-lovers, movie-watchers, magazine readers, armchair travelers, businessmen, gardeners and dreamers. The list is endless and the resources of the Back Mountain Memorial Library are varied. Whatever your need or interest, try your library first! It has some- thing for ‘‘everyone’’ on almost “every” subject! AK HILL Too mucha, too mucha! » ’ by Bridgette Correale What a way to start September, I missed wishing a ‘happy, happy’ to several good friends--friends I see often. Belated greetings’ to Marie Annetta, Mary Gesmundo, Sept. 1 and Julie Iwanowski, Aug. 29. To Jack and Elly Thompson their wedding anniversary, Sept. 1, congratulations. Happy birthday to Elaine Dembowski, Sept. 4, Mike Wnjorski and Carolyn Maccarielli Sept. 1, Peg Canfield, Sept. 7 and Linda Scholl Sept. 9, Kim Brady nine years old, Sept. 5. Nice to see that Jeanie DeWitt is back into the swing of things following her emergency operation. Eileen Marquis of Westchester, N.Y. visited her parents Harry and Betty for the Labor Day weekend. Jack and Mary Gesmundo have recently returned from a five-week stay with their daughter, Marianne Regal and family, in South Bend, Indiana. es In last week’s column I mentioned that cousins, Jif} Ann and Thomas Rappi from Fort Myers, Fla. were visiting and that I would fill you in this week...Hang on - we had so much fun together that three out of four of us became ill. - Not of each other - but of laughing. Wouldn't believe you could really get sick from laughing, but we did. Take for instance Tuesday evening, we traveled to Swartswood Lake, N.J. to dine with two other cousins, Sal and Connie Romano. On our way up or down, whichever way the crow flew that night, we stopped off at a pizzeria for Sicilian pizza, a pizza where in two hours we were going to eat a full course dinner. That alone should tell you what kind of food was devoured at the restaurant...plenty. Now how did we get sick? We all were laughing so hard, Anne up-chucked her antipasto, me seeing her being sick, laughed so hard I hit my head on the table, Connie trying to get to Anne, almost fell off her seat, then for two days after, Vin's stomach was sore and sour. All from laughing and that was only one evening, imagine what the week was like. Labor Day is always a downer for me because it kind of closes the door on summer - my favorite season. Then the children return to school, the neighborhood becomes too quiet and the leisurely pace quickens into the rush to here and there. But I can’t remember a nicer summer, a summer of relaxation, good weather, good company and twelve extra pounds. AAAy-too mucha - too mucha! Speaking of these 12 lousy pounds, last week I oepned our mail and there were tickets to my high school’s first reunion scheduled for Sept. 28. Why didn’t they send them in June so I could have gone on a hunger strike/ The last time most of my classmates saw me I was shaped like my 13-year-old daughter. Now 40 pounds later - heaven help! 4 September 3,4,5,6,7, the Fall Fair will again liven up our community and this year I plan to enter several of my accomplishments. After the last paragraph, you N squash and Italian plum tomaotes? This year our garden basil, big leaves and full, the bell peppers, eggplants, peas, pumpkins, the seedless squash and the large tasty plums. What garden and us city folk who thought weeds were a certain type of grass. Sunday, Sept. 7, Gate of Heaven parish will conduct a special tribute to Father Steve McGough in the school’s auditorium between 3 and 6 p.m. Fr. McGough is being transferred to St, Patrick’s Church in West Scranton. All Back Mountain friends are cordially invited to wish him well and incidently a happy birthday for Sept. 7 is Fr. Steve's birthday. me
