The Greater Wilkes:
Barre Family = YMCA
announced that the 9th
Annual Elementary
Wrestling Tournament
will be ‘held Sunday,
March 2nd at the Wilkes
College Gymnasium. The
Tournament is open to
wrestlers 12 years of age
as of March 2nd and
‘younger.
This year the Tour-
nament will feature three
divisions I - For wrestlers
8and under. IT - 9 & 10 and
III - 11 & 12.
Trophies sponsored
by the First Eastern
Bank, will be awarded to
all first and second place
finishers and plaques will
be awarded to each third
and fourth place con-
testant.
“The Eric Planitzer
Trophy’’ named in honor
of retired YMCA
Executive Director, will
be awarded for the
wrestler with the most
falls in the least total
time. “The Vince DeGillio
Trophy” named after the
founder of all YMCA
Wrestling Tournaments
will be awarded for the
most outstanding wrestler
in each division.

Damon Young, health
and physical director, is
announcing the Greater
Wilkes-Barre YMCA
karate and judo club
‘which begins a new series
of classes on Jan. 29, to
last to March 13. Classes
meet Tuesday and
Thursday evenings from
7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Self-defense will
develop and teach you to
have a feeling of security
through physical fitness
and unarmed - self-
defense. = Just as im-
portantly, Karate and
Judo will provide peace of
mind, a sense of self
discipline, and a sense of
self confidence.
Training begins with
simple motions of
posture, flexibility and
strength. Training
progresses into action
forms of continuous at-
tack and defense.
As co-ordination and
strength develops
students are up graded in
rank and given advanced
instruction on techniques.
Dallas Senior High
School power technology
students have received a
certificate of merit from
the editors of ‘Mechanix
Illustrated’ magazine.
The students received the
commendation from the
editors for their excellent
craftsmanship in their
workshop projects. The
award will be presented in
an upcoming issue of the
magazite

Russell Owens, in-
structor of the power
technology program, has
been successful for the
past year and a half. The
program has been very
successful with the
students. This last award
is one of three received
this year.
The students completed
a custom-made motor-
cycle, four student
motorcycles and restored
25 cars for the program.
Edgar R. Hughes, high
school principal,
congratulated the
students for their out-
standing performance.

Dallas seeks
English
teacher
Dallas School District
will have a professional
vacancy on its
educational staff of the
Dallas Senior High School
for an English instructor,
effective Feb. 29 for the
remainder of the school
year. The instructor must
be ‘certified in English.

College Misericordia’s
“Fun Runs” will resume
on Jan. 26 following a
break for the Christmas
vacation.
The runs are held on the
Back Mountain campus at
10 each Saturday morning
and are available to the
general public at no
charge. The runs are
supervised by ex-
perienced runners at the
college and include
physical check-ups before
actual running takes
place.
“Fun Runs” are for
both the novice and the
experienced runner with
distances set accordingly.
Stretching exercises
are held in the college
gym first, followed by
running distance from '4
miles to 4 miles around
the Misericordia campus.

Back Mt. mat club
The Back Mt. Wrestling Club’s elementary wrestling
team scored eight pins and overpowered the Hanover
young matmen by a score of 60-15 on Sunday afternoon at
the Hanover gym
This marked the second victory for the local grapplers,
who will host Wyoming Valley West next Sunday af-
ternoon at the Dallas Junior High School at 1:30.

In tournament action on Saturday at Sayre, First place
trophies were won by Bryan Mathers at 55 lbs. and Jeff
Randazzo at 60 lbs.; capturing second place was Steve
Mathers at 55, and Mark Amato placed third.
In the Montgomery tournament, Bill Mathers won first
place honors, Scott Walsh and Matt Conologue placed
third, and Pual Feeney and Mark Yaple placed fourth.

Bush League five a week
earlier. The Pin Splitters
took three from Mission
Impossibles then dropped
