Carl Siglin’s Noxen Rebels and Cook’s Owls of Lehman, who were vic- torious in semi-final series last week in the American and National Divisions of the loop, scored first round vic- tories in Monday's opening games of the finals for division honors, and indications were that both would be the finalists for playoff honors that will * begin Monday evening. Cook’s had little trouble upending Columbia Porch Shades in the semi-final games last week, winning the deciding game Thursday evening, 11 to 3, after Columbia Porch Shades had tied the series last Tuesday evening with a 21-20 win over the Owls in National Division play. In the other half of the semi-finals in the National Division, Villa Roma eliminated Pizza Bar from further com- petition. In Monday night’s opening games of the National Division finals, Cook’s scored an 8-7 win over Villa Roma with Steve Skammer coming up with the big blow, a two-run homer. Skammer has been playing in the outfield for Cook’s this season. The two teams met again Tuesday evening at the Lehman diamond. If a third game is needed between Cook’s and Villa Roma, it will be played this evening. In the American Division playoffs, the word around Noxen last week was ‘‘We had Tupper’s for supper,” an unusual way of telling those, who would listen, that the Noxen Rebels had beaten Tupper’s Sporting Goods of Dallas in the semi-finals of the Division playoffs. The Rebels two wins in the best of three semi-finals series came Tuesday and Thursday evenings, after Tupper’s had thrown a scare into the Rebels by winning the opening game of the series at Noxen. In Tuesday’s game last week, Rebels beat Tup- per’s decisively, 14 to 6, then came back Thursday evening to take a 6-4 decision that eliminated Tupper’s from ‘further competition in this year’s playoffs. In the other half of the American Division semi- finals, Hilltop =~ Inn defeated Joe’s Grotto Pizza, 14-10, last Tuesday evening, and came back Thursday evening to win by a 10-7 score. In Monday evening's opening game of the best of three games finals series for American Division honors, Noxen Rebels took just five in- nings to trounce Hilltop Inn, 14-3. Tommy Con- sidine, Rebels catcher, and Mike Kopcha, Rebels fielder, hit for the circuit game was called after five frames because of the 10-run league rule. The Rebels and Hilltop played their second games of the finals Tuesday evening on the Lehman diamond. If a third game is necessary, it will be played this evening at Noxen, following the game bet- ween Cook’s and; Villa Roma--if the latter ‘two teams sent their finals National Division playoffs to three games for a decision. The annual fall slo- pitch softball tourney of the Noxen Rebels will be held during the week ends of September 15-16 and Sept. 22-23, it was an- nounced early this week by Carl Siglin and Jim Barbacci of the Rebels front office. The tourney will be of the double elimination type with a winner's and a loser’s bracket. Entry fees must be in by Sept. 9 and teams desiring to enter the tourney are asked to contact any of the following: Carl Siglin at 298-2326; Mike Galka at 208-2244 or Tom Bean at Winner of the tourney will receive a cash award in addition to a trophy. Teams finishing in second and third places in the tourney will receive a trophy. All tourney games will be played on the Noxen diamond starting Saturday, Sept. 15, with games scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 16, and on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 22-23. and Western Pleasure Window, Radio, PS, PB, 8,000 mi. *6390 1978 Ford F-250 Ranger V-8, AT, PS, PB, 4 WD, Lockout Hubs, Sliding Rear Window, 23,000 Mi. get your kids off on he right foot.
