A am , by Lee L. Richards Had a good visit with Coach John Mazur of New York Jets on Saturday evening. Mazur, Ed Davis and I did manage to meet down in Plymouth and talk © some football and roundball. John was in town to sp- eak at Crestwood’s football banquet Sunday night. The former Plymouth great believes they're got things headed in the right “If anyone can turn the program back into a It’s a shame Walt wasn’t given the opportunity earlier, but people in the NFL do some strange In regards to the coming draft which is slated for May, Mazur says, ‘We've done a lot of player evaluation and took a good long look at the people in the Senior Bowl. We've got all of our draft choices and we're not looking for any particular positions right now. “We’ll take the best turn comes. By May we’ll know what everyone else is looking for and we’ll select accordingly.” John confirmed what we had heard earlier iin the week that had Chuck Knox not accepted the Buffalo job he would have been one of several people in- terviewed. While a lot of critics put down the Super Bowl here’s three opinions we value very highly: Coach Mazur, N.Y. Jets: “There were some deficiencies early but the tackling by both teams was tenacious. Overall, it was a good football game. Dallas’ front four was the difference. They physically overpowered Denver. It's the most physical Super Bowl I’ve seen.” Coach Bobby Roper, defensive coordinator Tennessee: ‘‘It was a heckuva football game. They really got after each QUICK SERVICE 2 675- 5121 Back Mountain wrestling fans are looking forward to an exciting meet next Wednesday when the Dallas Mountaineers meet the Lake-Lehman Knights at the Lake-Lehman Senior High School gym. They anticipate one of the most exciting and closely fought bout to be the 185-lb. contest between the Knights’ Dana Sutliff and Mountaineer Ken Kuderka. That is, if both remain at their present weight class. Sutliff, a senior at Lake- Lehman High School, met Kuderka, a junior, three times last year and lost three times but by very close scores. His losses were in a dual meet, district finals and in regionals, He is looking forward to avenging those losses this time around. The son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Dana Sutliff, RD 1, Shickshinny, this marks Dana’s sixth year of wrestling experience. He wrestled for three years in junior high and was a two-time’ district junior high champ at 167- Ib. He wrestled on the senior high varsity in his sophomore year and was district runnerup, losing only to Fritz Bleich, who later became state champ. As runnerup, he ad- vanced to regionals and to states but failed to bring home a title. Last year, at 167-1b., Sutliff was run- nerup in Districts to Kuderka and again in the Regionals. Sutliff’s record to date at 185-1bs. is 12-0. Sutliff is a natural athlete and has played on both the offense and defense of Lake-Lehman Senior High School varsity football teams for the past three years. During the track season, he participates in the 330 IM hurdles. He plans to attend college but uncertain which one as yet. He wants to attend a school where he can play football and wrestle, his favorite sports. Dana’s coach, Jim Davis said that Sutliff has a good attitude and is level- headed. Dana is a thinker and like all members of this year’s team is loose. Ken Kuderka, junior, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Kuderka of Orange. He wrestled for three years in junior high school.154- lbs. in seventh and eighth grades and at 167-lb. in ninth grade. Ken was junior high district champ in ninth grade. Last year, his first year on the senior high school varsity squad he took the District title at 167-1b., outwrestling Sutliff as mentioned. Kuderka played football in eighth and ninth grade and for the past two seasons at senior high, he has played lineback on the varsity. His brother, Ray, and his father also played the same position when they were in school. He is not certain about college since he is only a junior but he likes both if he goes to college would like to attend a small college where he could participate in both. His brother, Ray, was a member of the varsity squad at Dallas and Ken alet about wrestling. Kuderka says he will do his best to defeat Sutliff if he goes against him although he says one never knows. His record for the’ season is 7-1, the loss being to John Green of Goshen, N.Y., in the Christmas Tournament at Delaware Valley. Last year, as a sophomore, his record was 16-4-1. Coach Larry Schuler says Ken is aggressive and continuously - improving. ‘Anything you can say about wrestling, you can say about Kenny,”’ he said. ‘‘His wrestling speaks for itself.” Who will win if these two opponents meet for the fourth time-they won’t predict the outcome and other and if they hadn’t there wouldn't have been so many people -gettin’ were great plays. They were every bit as brilliant as the grabs made by Lynn Swann two years ago. Early mistakes made the game appear sloppy.” Coach Gib Romain, defensive tackles, Maryland: “It was a tough and hard-hitting football football game. I was ex- tremely pleased for Randy (White) him for two years at Maryland. I know how dedicated he’s worked to achieve the status he now enjoys. Both defenses got after each other. They've got character. There wasn’t any cowards on the field, that’s for sure.” The Back Mountain Wrestling Club defeated Montoursville Elementary wrestlers by a 55-12 score at Montoursville, Sunday, Jan. 22. We can’t believe George Allen was fired with the Redskins. Here's a guy that led the Skins to 7-8 log against the Cowboys. While many have and will continue to bad-mouth Allen, we think he’s a great coach. His teams were tough with every opponent. We gotta believe the move the team declines and he Allen. Should Allen get the Rams’ post, we’d bank on him getting them ‘to the Super Bowl. More and more fans are complaining over the sports programing on Channel 28.
