guardians who are
unemployed, or become
free and reduced price
meals or for free milk
during the period of
unemployment, provided
that the period of
unemployment causes your
family income to fall within
the eligibility criteria.
Families falling within
these scales, or those
suffering from unusual
circumstances or
hardships are urged to
apply for free or reduced
price lunches and-or free
milk for their children.
Unusual circumstances
and hardships include
unusually high medical
expenses, shelter costs in
excess of 30 percent of
reported income, special
education expenses due to
the mental - or physical
condition of a child or
disaster or casualty losses.

meals and milk, they
should contact the school.
They may do so by filling in
the application forms sent
home in a letter to parents.
Additional copies are
available at the principal’s
office in each school.
Applications may be
submitted any time during
the school year. The easy-
to-complete form requests
information that school
officials need to determine
economic need based on
the income and number of
persons in the family and
or hardships which affect a
family’s ability to pay for
school meals and-or milk.
The information provided
on the application will be
held confidential and will
be used only for the
determining of eligibility.

of the district will review
applications and determine
eligibility. If a parent is
dissatisfied with the ruling
of the local official, he or
she may request, orally or
in writing, Dr. Richard A.

hearing to appeal the
decision. Hearing
procedures are outlined in
the policy.
The policy also provides
that there will be no
identification or
discrimination against any
child because of his-her
race, color, religion, sex,
color, national origin ‘or
inability to pay the full
price of the meal and-or
milk.
A complete copy of the
policy may be reviewed by
any interested party in the
office of the
Superintendent.
