    Eighteen Back Mountain
wrestlers took first place
titles in the AAU Junior
Olympic Wrestling
Tournament held ‘Sunday
at Dallas Senior High
School.
A little over 300 wrestlers
from Luzerne,
Lackawanna, Wayne, Pike,
North Schuylkill and
Bradford Counties were
entered in the competition
which began at 10 a.m. and
ended with the finals at
6:30 p.m.
The. Back Mountain
Wrestling Club sponsored
the tournament with Bob
Hislop and Jim Alansky as
tournament directors.
Brian Corbett, outstanding
wrestler in District 2 AA
senior tourney and two
times district champ, and
Ken Kuderka, Dallas
district champ, presented
the awards to the finalists.
The finalists will now
enter the Regional AAU
Tournament which will be
held this Saturday at
Dallas Senior High School.
All of the district finalists
from Saturday’s tourney
will enter the regional
under the Back Mountain.
The tournament was
divided into four classes,
Bantam, eight years and
under; Midgets, nine and
10-year olds; Juniors, 11
and 12 year-olds; and
Intermediate, 13 and 14
year olds.
Finalists in the Bantam
division from the Back
Mountain were Tom
Feeney, 45-lbs.; Bill
Mathers, 50 lbs.; Paul
Feeney, 60 Ilbs.; Mark
Yaple, 65 1bs.; and Doug
Ide, 70 lbs.
First place winners in the
Midget division were Jeff
Austin, 50 lbs.; Dean
Robinson, 55 1lbs.; Scott
Little League
tryouts set
for Saturday
Back Mountain Little
League for Boys tryouts for
all boys registered from
the Dallas area will be held
Saturday, April 2, and
April 9, at the Little League
field below the Dallas
Township Elementary
School. Boys, who are not
registered, may register on
these dates.
All boys registered from
Dallas are invited to attend
with the exception of those
boys already members of a
major league. They will
not have to tryout.
Times for tryouts are 9
a.m., 12year-olds; 10 a.m.,
11 year-old; 11 a.m., 10
year-olds; noon, eight and
nine year-olds.
All boys are requested to
bring a glove. Bats and

placed third in the Bantam

Garinger, 85 Ibs., all in the
Juniors.
The regionals this
Saturday will include the
first and second place
winners in each weight
class in the four divisions

Lake-Lehman took two
firsts and a second place
and Dallas came home
with a first and third place
in the Third Annual
Marching Festival
competition at Bishop
Hoban High School,
Saturday, March 26.
Dallas drill team led by
Trinny Richardson and
Joan Harrison took first
place in the drill team
competition with Lake-
Lehman coming in second
with Sandy Mrochko
setting the pace.
Lake-Lehman came in
first in the color guard
competition led by Richard
Kasko, Joan Duffy, and
Ann Houssock. Crestwood
finished second and Bishop
Hoban came in third.
In the majorette
competition, Denise Weiss
led the Lake-Lehman
group to a first place with
Bishop Hoban second and
Dallas third, led by head
majorette, Lynn Wolfe.

The color guard of
Cardinal Dougherty High
School, Philadelphia, and
the flag corps from the
same school, presented an
exhibition before a
standing-room-only
audience.
The units were judged on
inspection, marching and
maneuvering, carriage and
use of equipment, and
general effect.
S. Sgt. Larry Earl,
USMC, former Dallas
student, served as
inspection judge while
members of the Middle
Atlantic States Judging
Association judged the
other areas in the
competition.
Units competing
represented Dallas, Lake-
Lehman, Bishop Hoban,
Nanticoke Area, Wyoming
Area, Crestwood, Bishop
O’Reilly, Pittston Area,
and Coughlin.
