“O’Reilly’s quarterback
tried to toss the ball to
(Brian) Judge and lost the
hand. on it. (Steve)
Skammer scooped it up
and kept on going for his 80-
yard touchdown. That was
the deciding factor in the
game,” said Coach Jack
Jones, commenting on the
Dallas-Bishop O'Reilly
game won by his Mounts
28-14 last Friday night in
Valley West stadium.
“Skammer is one of the
best quarterbacks in the
conference. T’ll put him
against any of them,” said
Jones, ‘‘he just isn’t
noticed because of our
, record this year.”
‘And don’t discount Ken
Kuderka. He played an
outstanding game, really
punished O'Reilly, and he’s
only a sophomore. He
rushed for 115 yards and
cored the one touch-
bown.’
“Jerry McDowell is an-
other sophomore who has
come a long way. He made
a number of key hits, both
against O’Reilly and the
week before against Wyo-
ming. He’s5'11’
weighs over 250 pounds.
He's a fine defensive
tackle.”
“But all the boys did a
good job. (Bob) Whelan
made a fine catch for a
touchdown pass and Juan
Navarro helped ice the
cake with his run for a
score. The boys were in

there working, all of them,
and they made a lot less
mistakes than they have
takes than the Queensmen
but we still had too many
penalties-six for 60 yards.”
Kuderka was named
most valuable player by a
local radio station, which
broadcast the game. The
sophomore halfback kept
rushing the Queensmen of-
fense throughout the game
and in the fourth quarter
climaxed a Mount 51-yard
drive by going in for a
touchdown.
With less than a minute
gone in the second quarter,
the Mountaineers scored
following a drive from deep
in their own territory with
Kuderka picking up two
first downs. On a third
down and four, Skammer
hit Bob Whelan with a 38-
yard touchdown pass in the
end zone. Skammer kicked
the extra point to give the
Mountaineers a 7-0 lead.
The Queensmen were
deep in Dallas territory
after they recovered a
Dallas fumble. With a first
down on the Mounts’ 16-
yard line, the Queensmen
fumbled and Skammer
picked it up and ran alone
down the field for the
score. His kick was wide
but the Mounts held a 13-0
lead at halftime.

and drove to the Queen-
smen’s four yard line from
where Navarro took it
across for a score. A
penalty put the ball mid-
way between the one and
two yard line and the
Mounts picked up two
points on Skammer’s pass
to Steve Asby.
With the score 21-0,
O'Reilly’s Judge ran 62
yards for a touchdown.
Nardone’s kick for the
extra point was good and
the Queensmen went on the
board with seven.
Kuderka got the score
back when he went over
from the three yard line in
the opening minutes of the
final quarter. Skammer’s
kick was good and Dallas
went in front 28-7.
O’Reilly picked up their
final score with less than a
minute remaining in the
game. Richard Huck went
around left end and into the
end zone for the touch-
down. Nardone’s kick was
good for the extra point.
The game ended 28-14.
“It feels good to win and
the boys know that now.
They've had a taste of
winning; I hope they like it
well enough to keep
going,” said Jones.

seen them and we do have

predict the outcome of our
game this Friday. Even
though they have not been
winning, they have the
potential.
“If our boys play like
they did in the last two
games, we're in business,
less than that we're in
trouble. ‘If they play like
they did with Bishop
O'Reilly our chances are
good; if they play like they
did against GAR, it will be
sad.”
Some Lake-Lehman
defenders got together last
Saturday and played
‘‘sack-the-quarterback.”
They had a lot of fun at the
expense of Wyoming
Area’s quarterbacks and
helped the Black Knights to
a 18-7 win over the visitors.
Quarterbacks Tom
O'Donnell and Jim Oschal
found the territory
swarming with Knights
most of the time. Knights
Bob Wesley and Dana
Sutliff were credited with
sitting on their laps a total
of at least five times.
Coach Rich Gorgone’s
records credited Wesley
with initiating or assisting
in three sacks and Sutliff
with two. The Black
Knights fans were
delighted.
Gorgone said he knew if
he could move the ball on
Wyoming Area, the
Knights would have a good
day because ‘they couldn’t
score much on us.’’ He said
the first quarter pretty
much established the
Knights: ability to move
and, sure enough, shortly
after the beginning of the
second touchdown stanza,
Jim Spencer, broke
through the middle for an
18-yard L-L touchdown.
The march took the
Knights 71 yards. The
extra point kick failed and
‘the Knights led 6-0.
Wyoming Area’s didn’t
do much with their turn at
the ball, but when Pete
Deeb recovered Eddie
Oncay’s fumble following a
good punt return the
Warriors took heart.
O’Donnell, the Warrior's
running quarterback,
loped in from the one yard
line after a couple of nice
running plays.
Gorgone said his
defensive line was ‘‘at-
tacking” a little too much
and got ‘‘trapped’’ for one
of the big gainers, that set-
up the TD. He bemoaned
the fact that it was the only
game he could recall so far
this season when the
Knight line had been
successfully trapped. He
said the ‘‘attack’’
philosophy was built when
the defense seemed to lose
a little momentum against
the division one teams
which had pushed the
Knights to defeat in recent
weeks.
Sam Chairge’s con-
version kick gave the
Warriors a 7-6 lead-but it
didn’t last long. The
Knights retained
possession during the next
series for more than seven
minutes, grinding out 65
yards on 16 plays, with
Quarterbacks Mark
DeCesaris scoring from the
one with a fourth down
plunge.
“We were very pleased
with our offensive line
play,” Gorgone said. The
group appeared to pretty
much dominate the line of
scrimmage. During the
second half, the Knights
moved deep into Warrior
territory twice, but came
up short, one drive ended
by an interception.
Then in the final quarter,
DeCesaris launched his
second touchdown pass of
the season, a’ 37-yarder to
Bert Balliet. Gorgone said
Balliet also picked up
about 40 yards rushing and
a key reception in the
second touchdown drive.
Gorgone was also high in
praise of his other of-
fensive stars. About
DeCesaris, Gorgone said,
‘he’s an outstanding
quarterback and a good
runner--185 pounds and he
moves.” About Jack
